Retiring from the hobby

Post by delbydoo »

As you probably haven't noticed, I have been fairly quiet on the forum scene, and my repaints and plans (with the exception of the CWHM Lanc) have all but dried up.

I am afraid to say that the bug has left the building. In fact he went a while ago, but I have been helping out with bits and pieces here and there, but suffice to say, I have so little interest in simming now that I have not fired the sim up to fly for over four months.

There will be no more paints or plans from myself for the foreseeable future. I will still have work from Brian to keep me in check (and there are at least two more sceneries coming from Il Maestro that I know of) so I will not disappear completely. Just mostly.

I have had a wicked time over the last 14 years, enjoying a hobby that stimulated me and taunted me into actually becoming a part of the process; however small that may be, I have taken part in both commercial and private beta-testing for some phenomenal people over those years, and I have met many talented, more-knowledgeable people than myself and had nothing but encouragement from those people.

I am proud to say that I was the third person to register on this forum back in 2006 ("Me Turd") after its move from another forum that I cannot remember the name of.

All I can say is WHAT A BUNCH OF FANTASTIC PEOPLE YOU ALL ARE!!!!! Big hand to Dan for if it wasn't for him, NONE of this would have been possible. You others guys - mutz nutz, nuff said. All of the aircraft, scenery, scenery objects that have been born through these very doors - aircraft, that if it hadn't been for the likes of Nick Black, Jake Burrus, Kevin Reid, Miljan Korac, Mike Pearson, Mark Griggs, John Young and the MAIW Designers, would possibly NEVER seen the light of day.
Forgive me if I have left anyone out - it's not intentional.
I have been humbled to be in the presence of a great bunch of guys who were ever ready to answer the most awkward queries and questions that the world could throw at them.

Thankfully, Martin over at the Owls Nest has very graciously offered to put up a page of my works over at the nest, which will be available very soon. See what I mean? How nice was that? Thank you so much Martin for your own work - the AI Aircraft editor was probably one of the most useful sim tools ever made, and I heartily place it up there with AFCAD and ADE9X (thanks to Lee and Jon); as well as the tons of reference material put together by yourself as well. Amazing stuff.

I shall be keeping an eye out here every now and again, but for now,
Bye, au revoir, tchuse, adios, Ciao, Довиђења, Aloha, 再見, Farvel, tot ziens
It's been fun.
It may be again, one day......

If the bug returns, Daryl, you have a place to come :smt001

Thank you for trusting me with keeping you great paints together and online, the Daryl Payne's AI Paints Collection is already online.

Have as much fun with everything that comes next as you had with flight simming, and make sure to visit once in a while.

All the best!
Cheers,
Martin

Sorry - you do not have permission to resign/give up/walk away :P

Take a break mate and if the bug comes back, you know where to come. You can still lurk around the forums as and when you feel like it.
