Looking for an E2 Hawkeye package

Post by twharrell »

I was wondering if there is an E2 Hawkeye package out there. I'm looking for some AI to populate Point Mugu NAS.

Cheers,

Todd

Hi Todd and welcome.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has done a true Hawkeye AI model.

We certainly haven't done one.

There is an AI E-2C at Eric Dantes website.
Illinis will share his repaints very soon.

Very cool. Thanks!

Where do I download the model? There doesn't appear to be a link.

Of course, I just give the start page of the site.

You must go to "Telechargments" (Download in french), and then, after, click on the plane icon.

And you'll find all the AI aircrafts of this author.

For this E-2C Hawkeye, is it possible to someone make a DRY version of CFG file, to use this ai aircraft on carrier scenery ?

Even the wet FDE could use a hand, it's shaking uncontrollably on takeoff.

Does anyone know the polycount by the way? It seems rather detailed, so I'd imagine it's pretty high.

Coming in a bit late on this one, but I was just doing a bit of early research on the aircraft (amongst others). The Erica Dantes E-2 Hawkeye has 6840 polygons (mesh triangles), 5194 texture vertices and 26 draw calls. All very good if used for AI.

However, it only has 1 LOD and 9 texture sheets, which is not good for AI.

Would a new multi-LOD E-2 Hawkeye (FS9 and FSX native) model be popular? It's ranked way down at number 54 in the Owl's Nest most wanted poll. Its is also annotated as "In Development", but I don't know if that's still the case.

Just asking at this stage.

Well, France operates it, not only the US, and AFAIK it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I know I'd love to have it represented in the sim, and I suspect I am not alone.

My favorite development hangout has 13 E-2C in service with 4 E-2D on order, so I think you can count me in the interested segment.

Of course, the US Navy is the big winner with nearly 80 in service.

I've always loved the crazy Grumman style wing twist these aircraft do.

Yes it would definitely be popular.

Guys, Jake B. started one some time ago but had it on hold. It's still basic in features and only 1 LOD but quite nice. Some screenies.

Looks good from here and obviously far better than I could manage (imagine a box with two oblongs for wings).

I'm sure the community would be very happy with an addition to the models available. Looking forward to it at
some time in the future.

I've now discovered that Mike JG last reported on the JBAI E-2D model in January 2014 and, as Lewis has illustrated, that looked to be in an advanced state of completion. If the intention is to complete it, as I hope it will be, then I will steer well clear. As it's an FSDS design, I can't really offer to finish it. Importing the model into Gmax will create more problems than it solves and it would be easier for me to design from scratch. I think therefore that I'll pass on this one and leave the JBAI options open.

This USN aviation and anything turboprop fan would vote for the Hawkeye. Don't forget the ROCAF has a few, and RSAF used to.
