How to remove static aircraft

Post by voorink »

Does anyone happens to know in which BGL files the static aircraft of the former East German Airfields made by M. Spengler (flightsim.com: GDR mil7, GDR mil8) are hidden? I would like to remove them en replace them with AI aircraft.
Much thanks.

In general, the statics acfts are in a specific BGL file with "static" in his name. I heve removed a lot of static in some sceneries with this procedure. I don't have GDR scenery. Have you a list of BGL's files ?

There is no specific BGL file called "static" I could send you an example with all of the files of one specific airfield

I've download the scenery.

The files are the same type for each airport.

xxx_1.bgl
xxx_3.bgl
xxx_3m.bgl
xxx_4.bgl
xxx_6.bgl

It seem to be a SCASM structure file (not ADE)

I suggest you to test by removing one file (for exemple 4), and test. If not this one, do the same by removing the 6) (not the 1 and 3)

Or run the files through Model Convertor X and see what's in them. You might be able to delete them that way.

I've had this on a few sceneries where it is not specified where the statics are in the file, this is one of my pet hates.
It's a shame because the scenery designer may have worked hard and in a lot of cases the scenery is good but the statics for me personally spoil it.

There is a util which can be used to remove objects from a bgl and I have used it successfully in the past. What I can't do is remember what it is called or whether it still works on later scenery.

However, as long as you take a backup first, why not delete the object from a bgl. I know it has been said before but it is a very valid suggestion.

It's called "Remover" and is in "Remover.zip" at flightsim.com Steve. It was produced in 2002 for FS2000 and FS2002 and works by locating the static object in the .bgl from the texture names. It's not completely fool proof and users should make a back up of the file first. Probably better to try and remove the object(s) via MCX as suggested.

Ta for that, John. Yes you are right it wasn't a straight forward proggy but it did work for most sceneries, at that time.

Not just the statics are awful, but also the trees. I found an interesting website with a lot of GDR air base projects.

http://forum.ddr-flugzeuge.de/viewforum ... bce2d48615

The site is in German, but you might download always the last and therefore the newest file to get the most advanced version of each airport.

Thank you all for the input you gave me regarding this topic. Especially the German site looks promising. (the language is no problem as I live close to the German border.) Again.... thank you.
