[NEED HELP] AFCAD for HELI

Post by TheFoufure »

Hello,

I hve little problem with Heli Traffic.

I explain :

- I ve modified the orginal MAIW afcad for LYBT scenery (serbian pack) and removed the parking where Heli normaly park.
- I ve created a new AFCAD only for Heli, with 2 invisible runways (take off in one side, and landing on the other side for each runway)
- I ve modified the Traffic file for the Heli (Mi-17 and Mi-8) for use with the new AFCAD (I named it LYTB)

When going in FS2004, I see all the Heli at the right places. They start their engine and go to taxi, but never take off. They disapear. And other helis apear like a magician on the parking, without landing.

If there is a specialist in AFCAD, he can help me. I'll send the file via PM or email.

Thanks a lot

If the are disappearing on their parking spot after engine start that almost always means that they could not reach an active runway.

Double check to make sure that all of your parking spots are connected and that you dont have a broken taxi link. Those two arw the most common causes for this problem.

Also if they actually taxi to the runway but don't take of then it could simply be that you haven't put any hold short nodes down. You have to have them at every entrance/exit to the runway and they have to be facing the right way. The help that comes with afcad will be useful here.

While we are talking secrets of helicoper AFCADs, if you have used a 1ft width runway to make it invisible, that may cause you to have aircraft that won't take off. If you only have 1 aircraft using the runway, 1ft runways work fine. If you have more than 1 and an aircraft has to wait at the hold short, it won't ever take off once the first one leaves. If you use a 4ft width runway, everything works fine.

I dont put any old Short. I'll try with this.

The runway is 50 ft width, but with unknow surface (so it's invisible).

I'll try with adding hold short.

Add the hold shorts and make sure you have runway starts. If you don't have runway start positions, AI won't air for the runway correctly when landing.

Oh, one last bit of advice of heli AFCADs, in order to make the hold shorts not show up, make a segment of taxiway immediately before and after them 1 foot in width. This will make the hold short markings not show up.

I've made HOLD SHORT and START position... and always same problem.

Can I send you the AFCAD and TRAFFIC files ?

Sorry, but that isn't thru. I reduce them with AFCAD 221 to a with of 0.4 ft, the narrowest possible, and it works. BTW, unknown surface doesn't mean invicible. It's just somehting else and indefinable. With a with of 4 ft. the runway will still appear as a green line.

Yes, the first aircraft to use the runway will take off just fine. If there is just one aircraft at the airport it will always take off fine.
All aircraft will land just fine. Any aircraft that was waiting at the hold short while another aircraft was taking off won't do anything.

We have tested this very extensively. If you have two aircraft depart five minutes apart, they will both take off fine. If you have a flight of two aircraft, the second goes no where.

That is correct. A 4ft runway will show. That's why I tend to hide busy helicopter runways under other existing taxiway centerlines and use 1ft wide runways for remote landing locations that won't see more than one aircraft at a time.

TheFoufure, you almost had it right with the version you sent me. Double check your runway start locations. You have two starts for rwy 4 and none for rwy 18. Once I corrected that, helicopters were happily flying TNG circuits.
