Traffic files in Custom Folders

Post by btaylo24 »

Hello

In P3D V4.4 is there a way to have all the traffic BGL files in a custom folder out of P3D path? and even on a different HDD.

I have done scenery,effects,textures and aircraft, but cant work out how to do traffic files.

Cheers

Folder structure should be the same as previous versions. Are you using Matrix? I have all MAIW stuff on a different drive in P3Dv4 with no issues as long as the "add-on" is active in P3D.

Hi Chris

Using Matrix and my own stuff. Maybe I will just create a custom XML and try it.

It has always been possible to put traffic BGL files in a folder outside FSX/P3D. Traffic BGL files are stored like scenery files, all you need to do is put the traffic BGL files in a \scenery folder and add the path to your scenery.cfg file. Example:

[Area.137]
Title=Traffic Files
Local=E:\AddonsFSX\Traffic
Layer=137
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

The actual folder structure holding the traffic BGL files = E:\AddonsFSX\Traffic\Scenery

Barry, I can confirm that you can put traffic in any active folder in any of the sims.
As Henk demonstrated that full path designation for any scenery has been possible from FS9 onwards, which I did myself some time ago and documented in a post.

You can use the same full path designation even for default scenery. Here is a sample of from my FS9 scenery.cfg :-

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Texture_ID=1
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE
Local=S:\FS9_Default\Scenery\World

Barry, like Henk explained for the scenery.cfg, the same goes for add-on.xml in P3Dv4.

If you section in the add-on.xml looks like this:

Code: Select all

<AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Scenery</Category>
        <Path>F:\P3D Addons\Traffic</Path>
        <Name>My custom AI traffic</Name>
</AddOn.Component>

Then your traffic bgl's need to be in F:\P3D Addons\Traffic\Scenery
