Post by gsnde »

Does anybody know if there is a SR-71 and/or a X-15 as AI?

In one word, NO.

While the alphasim models are pretty good, they themselves state, "hi-detail (but high-FPS with various anims, incl. tail boom on tankers) AI aircraft".

If you have a high end machine, then you'll probably be OK.

I don't believe these models to be of the AI quality that you would find here at MAIW.

That I believe. The problem is that I do find neither here . And I could swear that they would make such a good company for the MAIW U2.

Anybody from the MAIW team feels like doing those two black beauties?

I can reveal that MAIW does have its own version of the Skunk Works, and although I can't reveal any time scales involved, or even confirm or deny that anything is in development (because of this guy --->) :smt066 you may not be entirely disappointed, at some point, in due course, maybe  .

In all seriousness, one of the modellers has started work on something big and black. Whether it will see the light of day depends on the modeller and his priorities. He knows my feelings on getting it finished :smt041 .

I echo Steve's statements.

The more I work here at MAIW the more things I find out about what's going on at the Skunk Works.

And believe it when you're told, you will be more than surprised and happy to see what will be unvieled.

I can hardly wait to beta test some of this stuff.

AlphaSim SR-71 AI = 4737 Polys
Textures = 1.08 mb (one main, one light, one glass)

Not all that bad at all.
How many SR-71's were you planning on having anyway?

It isn't the 4737 polys when close to the aircraft which causes the problem. When at a distance and there are another 60-70 aircraft in view, the PC is still trying to draw all those polys for all those aircraft, there are no LODS. No I don't want 60-70 SR-71s but if Alpha AI aircraft are being used then a mix of all the models causes the problem as all are made the same way.

Alpha AI aircraft would have a much improved reception and acceptance if they were made with a few LODS.
Which way is up?

Short question: is the SR-71 still in service? I thought they were retired

Sadly they are out of service. First decommissioning was 1989. They have been re-activated once in the 90s, but then were send to second retirement.
