PAI Tornado Alpha Fix for FSX

Post by TheAaron.com »

Hi Guys!

I used to have 2 seperate alpha channels for the PAI tornado gr4/3 so it shows the canopy transparent instead of grey,

this was a long process in DXTbmp to adjust all the textures,

so i was just wondering if anyone know where the files are located?

(I know there's no FSX support so this is just mearly a file loaction request)

Thanks in advance!

Could you tell me how you did it?? I've been looking for a way to make those cockpits transparent for ages. I'm all jealous

Yup sure,

Firstly you need the two alpha channel textures the GR4 and F3 ones which is what im trying to locate,

then how i did it was,

You need:
-The two textures (Alpha channels)
-DXTbmp:
http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/programs/dxtbmp.htm
(Found at the bottom of the page)

I placed the Alpha channels (Texture adjustments) on to the desktop along with the MAIW gr4 and F3 tornado folders,

Then this takes AGES but worth it, you have to open each tornado in DXTbmp then at the top there will be a tab labelled 'Alpha' click on that which will bring a drop down menu up, on the drop down menu click 'Import Alpha' and then locate the Alpha channel fix (Texture replacement either the GR4 or F3 depending on the model your updating) and finally open the alpha channel, then you need to save the texture to the location you opened it from (MAIW Tornado GR4 folder) REMEMBER TO TICK under 'Mip Maps' include when saving!

I may be able to go into detail more if needed but as i say its a simple but very time consuming process!

Firstly though we have to locate the Tornado Alpha channels texture!

Hope that helps!

As long as one has a fixed scheme, you can export it from DXTBmp thereby creating your own.

Does either of you have a fixed one?

Please look to http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... 10&start=0. There are two files (Alpha channel) for IDF http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... hp?id=2009 and ADV http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... hp?id=2169 version. I hope they are right.

Ah, excellent, but do these work with the GR4 amd F3 versions-I don't know how much of a difference there is.

IDS is the GR4 and ADV is the F3

Awesome.. So glad to have the Tornado's back up to their sleek lines.

Does anyone know of a similar fix to Rysiek's A-10?

Intel i7 8700K at 5ghz
