NBAI F-22 Raptor

Post by nickblack423 »

OK since the F-15 is coming to an end, and as Weescotty once said "I work better when Ive got 2 on the go at the same time as if you get fed up with one you can jump onto the other," I'm going to try and make a start on my AI F-22 model this weekend.

Just wanted to make sure that no-one else has already started one, as happened with the F-15. if someone has no worries I've got other ideas in the pipeline.

Please indicate here if you have or have heard of another model being started.

Best way to do it.

You get fed-up working on the same one, so have a second one on the go also.

Currently mine - V-22 and Hunter.

Hey stop hijacking my thread you lot......Only Kidding, hunter looks great Kev.

The F-22 will be easier to make than the F-15 me thinks. Im not really keen to do loads of loadouts as, the bomb bay door wont be open much. I plan to animate the side lower doors, which will have sidewinders, or asraams loaded and pop out when on the ground. I'll also model versions with external hard points and tanks. Plus I've been experimenting with making afterburner effects from polys in the model on my F-15, so that I can animate the engine exhausts with vectored thrust and the afterburners will move with the exhausts. Tests have proved quite well, it needs tweaking with the shading and colours and the degree of transparency but I reckon I can come up with a good effect.

Yes Nick, you're right in the target!

I presume you did not move the pilot on your texture bitmap, against current F-15 texture?

No mate just copied the texture map straight across, and then blanked out the rest.
Thanks again, I'll be sure to credit you again mate....

Don't look like it would take a lot to turn that into a F/A-18.....

I think if you keep your fingers crossed, Rysiek was planning a F/A-18 actually.

Many many thanks again fellas. Like Ive said before without this positive feedback I dont think alot of us would bother so it really helps.

Here's a few views of the model as it stands now. Ive taken a whole new approach to this in that the fuselage and wings are one complete part, including the engines. Ive spent ages going in creating new polys and points. A first for me but Im very pleased with the results. What a ball ache finding all the points to attach polys to is though.

Starting on the gear and stuff now, then onto the engines. Should maybe have a LOD 1 model ready to start texture mapping within a few days. Then the laboriuos task of tweeking.
