AN-124 Preview

Post by Dark Morelia »

I just whacked a bit of paint on to make it look a bit less like moby dıck
I was hesitant about posting it here, but I'm assured it counts as military  Although I can't find any recent Russian AF pics.

We're not so stuck in military AI that we couldn't appreciate something like this. Good work!

No doubt, that would be sweet package since you see those things all over the world now.

This plane is much needed since the model of PAI is totally crap and the only other alternative is a very high poly UI model from Tomas Ruth. I'm really looking forward to it's release.

And the AN-124 is actually a military cargo transporter. It's in service with the Russian Air Force 224th Transport Detachment based at Tver-Migalovo (UUEM) and the 566th Transport Regiment based at Seshcha.

It would be nice to have this airplane together with some good AI An-22, An-12 and Il-76 so we can make the complete transport fleet of the Russian Airforce :P

Some Russian Air Force flightplans are available already. Take a look here:

http://www.avsim.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=39899

It includes plans for Tu-154, IL-18/62/76 and AN-124.

If someone wants to hunt down some info on the Russian AF ones, and maybe even make some new flightplans, I can take care of the model and the paints

Just another shot, to show that it does actually have landing gear, and lots of it !

Please excuse the very much WIP paintkit.

I went on a paintkit rampage today. Also reshaped the nose a bit, and fixed some other little bits and pieces.
I think I've finally got the nose right.

Cheers for the Russian AF pic John.
All the pics around seem to be at least a year old, so hopefully they haven't changed much in a year.

Hey Drew,

It's looking great. Are you going to have front and rear loading animation with the model in park mode.

Drew,

The nose and the rest of the plane look spot on to me. Great work.

Unfortunately no door animations :(. No matter what I tried it spoiled the smoothness, having the doors as separate parts.
Unless there's some trick to it I'm missing ?

I'm sure the immense knowledge amassed by the modelling gurus here can come up with a solution to the door issue. It would be wonderful to see the beast 'kneel'. :D

Have you seen the post in the Real Life Military forum? Looks like you may want to forget about the Russian AF version!

Yep, I saw and posted in it.
There won't be any military ones, so I guess I'd better stop previewing it here then

Experimenting to see if it's workable. I make NO promises I'll include it.

Image

I also make no screenshots from the other end, since it has no interior, and it's not kneeling, lol.

Drew,

I hope you'll continue with this and release it. Almost every NATO country leases or contracts these aircraft at some point. I wouldn't mind betting that the Russian ones will end up in some Air Force or another.
