Basic Helo animation

Post by SeanG »

With much thanks to John Young (for igniting this flame), Kevin Reed (for dragging me screaming and kicking into the world of postscript stack based programming) and Jim Beam (for mental lubrication).... I have got some cool animation going for my helo project..
This is Jake's Huey, just testing my animation code on it :)

Quite pleased with how it has worked out so far. I have some beta testers looking at my scenery, with 3 types of helos animated in the same manner to see if they look/move realistically enough

More to come ;-)

Well done Sean. Is that successful hover-taxi I see from the right hand spot?

Well done, indeed, that looks great! I like the nose down attitude in the first picture, too. Haven't managed that yet..

Hi Jon,
The nose down bit was complete fluke actually... but it works pretty well :) If you use Gmax I can send you a ready-to-link template?

Oh and...

Yes it is :) With the help of Kevin Reed, and your good self, I have managed to make the things work as I had envisaged :)

The rotors spin up 10 minutes (approx) after the NAV lights come on, so about 5 minutes prior to departure, then at departure time, BEACON trigger, the lift animation works. Then the lift/tilt bit comes in to play based on throttle position. Finally, the helo lift reverses as the BEACON goes off, and a minute of so later the rotors stop... couple of weeks ago I never thought I'd be playing with this stuff!

Hi Sean,

Oh, that Bell 47 is nice! Thanks for the template offer, although I'm one of those still labouring away in FSDS.

Sean, great achievement. Could you possibly update the XML Hover-Taxi thread with your latest code please? My next project could make use of it.
