Hi Drew

I just checked my calendar , it's only 143 days to Christmas.
I am currently drafting a letter to Santa Claus pleading for your magnificent F-111 AI's
to be under my Christmas tree this year.

Cheers

Were you aware that John Young released a collection of AI F-111s nearly a year ago?

Like Steve said there has been a fabulous AI Pig out for over a year now by John Young. I would not hold your breath for Drews version, as we have not heard from him for awhile now.

I wasn't aware of the John Young AI F-111 .
Still looking at the Shots of what Drew acheived makes me drool , would love to have a selection of those
flying about in my skies.

Here at MAIW we are not going to say use this instead of that one. If you want to wait for that one there is no problem with that, Drew's stuff is of very high quality.
All I was pointing out was that JY's one exists, and in a native FSX version as well, and he did an F-111C version. You could try it out and then decide which one to use when Drews gets released.

Karol,
You have no idea how good Drew's models are, I have them in my sim and they certainly are top shelf quality and they are of RAAF measurement. Remember this thread spoke earlier about the various RAAF upgrades made to the airframe such as longer wings, etc.
The animations are also fabulious and work very well as an AI.
I have an lod version but I can't share it, I'm really sorry about that but I hope to encourage Andrew to release the model and variants once he breaks from his Uni course later in the year. Also his wonderful C-17 which is ready to go!

I meant no disrespect for John Young's work on the AI's , I fully appreciate developers efforts.
I will be downloading his AI's and use them at some of the appropriate Airforce bases .

However , having followed this thread for a considerable period , and having seen Drew's work ,
I still would dearly love to get some of his F-111 AI models.

Still hopeful that they might be under my Christmas tree this year.

Steve

It's fun , love the work that the guys here at MAIW do.
I always fly at 100% AI , I know that people say it can hit frame rates , however
my preference is for populated air traffic , I think it's awesome.

In my panel , I have created 2 instruments capable of detailing AI traffic , you can
simultaneously "Lock Up" 2 different AI and track a massive amount of data on them.
Recently , I changed the coding in both instruments so that they display the distance to
the selected AI targets in NM when that distance is greater than 1.6NM ,
when the AI are closer ( less than 9,500' ) the readout changes from "NM" to "FEET" ,
that change has been fantastic for close in flying during intercepts or formation flying.

At the following link if you scroll down you will see both instruments at work , with one showing
AI target range about 223' .

Nice. I wish we had that code in a radar when I was doing online flying.

Does that gauge work in FS9 as well? Rather than take up this thread maybe you could pm me.

Thanks for that link.
I downloaded all the detail shots for my collection.
They would have been handy back when I did my Gunship Grey repaints
for the Alphasim/Virtavia FS9 model.
They are the best shots of the Pave Tack bomb bay doors that I have to date.

I was going to do repaints of the new Virtavia FSX model of the F-111 , but the
upper circular 'Swatches' immediately behind the cockpit are "model" located
and their placement inaccuracy and the formation lights being a little too low on
the side bothered me.
If I do a repaint then I want it to be as deadly accurate as is possible , and those two aspects
totally put me off doing a repaint for it.

The above is only a mild criticism and is more a reflection of my own fussiness , I think
that Virtavia did a brilliant job with their FSX model.

For the purist , wouldn't it be wonderful to have the full function Pave Tack with operating
doors and a variable steering capability for the Pave Tack ball . also full function
intake shock cones that change shape and lengthen in response to increased speed or
if cockpit test switch is operated.

I originally wanted a switchable cockpit frame arch that could be switched off or made
semi transparent to improve external visability , unfortunately that was not implemented ,
that is a shame as it would have been both useful and cool.
Some may have seen the Restauravia (?) Mirage videos where the canopy bow was made
semi transparent to improve external vision , that was done in response to actual RW Mirage
pilots requests to reflect the reality of flying the real deal.

Cheers
Karol

It is immediately obvious why that transparency is so very useful.

I wasn't aware that you wanted photos of the Pave Tac, I could have got you any number of angles when they were on the tarmac and being stripped down for worm food.
Good thing I found this website, I had a feeling it would come in handy for painters.

Here some final footage http://youtu.be/Og2a9fjEfhU taken by SQNLDR Phil Griggs of the F1-11 returning to Amberley via the NSW East Coast.

Thanks for that Mark , copied the Vid.
I try to get any available info , especially in cockpit shots or videos that
show instruments functioning , ie, MFD's , radar , RHAW , etc it all helps
when trying to emulate systems and instruments for the simulator.

If you happen to be interested I released the latest version of the
"FSX F-111 PIG HUD PROJECT-Navigation/Situation awareness cockpit"
about 4 weeks ago it is available at Simviation -FSX -Military - currently
showing up at page 2 ,
It only works for FSX , but it's great for locating AI aircraft , they show on the radar
with repeat data in the HUD for 'Locked On' AI up to 40NM , another instrument ,
the AI Hunter enables a second aircraft to be Locked On at up to 80 NM.
It enables you to intercept AI day or night even with zero visability , the
AI data is comprehensive.

Cheers
Karol
PS: if you are into navigation , it has a integrated " Mission Adaptive Flight
Plan Editor" that enables Flight plans to be created or existing plans to be modified
waypoints can be added in 3 different Lat/Longs , it is totally flexible, you can
get the Lat/Long of the letter box in front of your home on Google Earth and enter
that as a waypoint or a Direct To (DTO) then fly to that exact location or any other point
on the earth.
I did the 3 Lat/Long formats ,
(A)Degrees:Minutes:Seconds , commonly read off maps/charts.
(B)Degrees:Minutes to 2 decimal places , common on military instruments.
(C)Degrees to 4 decimal places , often derived from Google searches for Lat/Longs of towns or
significant locations .
It also has the Airport ICAO entries , all are typed with the computer keyboard.
It also has Radar screen location nomination and entry as waypoint.
It's fun to use.

Not related , but it also has my Programmable Ripple Bomb Release switch included.
