A-10C You Choose the Loadouts

Post by MIKE JG »

In a very rare occurrence here at Military AI Works (don't get used to it), I am taking requests for model variations for the soon to be released A-10C upgrade.

Rysiek Winawer has given us the go ahead to modify his original A-10A AI model and bring it up to the upgraded C model that is now being fielded across the A-10 fleet. We will be releasing the upgraded model files in the not too distant future. They will most likely just be a special release of just the model files only that you can swap into your current RWAI A-10 folders to change the models out.

I have also modeled the 2 special Eglin test Warthogs (989 seen here) that have the large test probe sticking out front. In addition to those, these are the planned loudouts, all using the new C base model:

Long Range for War-Litening Pod
Long Range for War-Sniper Pod
Super Long Range (double external tanks + 3 personal affects pods)
Clean
Clean with Pylons only

The new model features a reflective cockpit canopy, new satcom antennas, more preflight items, and other small additions. The biggest changes will be the new loadouts. The new C model will make use of the existing main A-10A texture files already out there so there will be no need for new paints.

For the actual loadouts, here are the weapons to chose from:

AIM-9L
AIM-9L CATM
ACMI Pod
AN/AAQ-33 Sniper Targeting Pod
AN/AAQ-28 LITENING AT targeting pod
SUU-25 Flare Dispenser
ALQ-131 ECM Pod
LAU-68/131 Rocket Pod
GBU-12 LGB
GBU-32 JDAM
Mk-82 LDB
Mk-82 Snakeye
AGM-65
AGM-65 CATM
Large External Fuel Tank

There are 11 stations that can carry ordinance. There are plenty of resources on the web to establish what the current loadouts are that are being fielded in Afghanistan. That's not a problem. This is more for anyone that might have a special configuration, has to be real world, that they might really want.

Can't wait and like the new loadouts, although the "double bubble" is pretty rare, but I would like to see the baggage pods.

"Double bubble", LOL!

Yea I've only seen a couple pics of that one, looks a bit odd, buy hey, the more choices the better right??

Standard loudout in Afghanistan seems to be two GBU-12's, one Mk-82 on the center hard point, a LITENING pod under one wing with an SUU-25 flare dispenser on the opposite hard point and rocket pods on the next outer hard points.

BTW, this is a GREAT A-10 blog site:

Yea, Henry doesn't seem too keen on sharing his original files. We'll have to make our own.

@Barry, yea I will still make a training version that uses the training munitions.

Looking forward to this, from what info I can find it seems most A-10A's are at AMARC with maybe a few A-10A+ still active.
It's a shame Henry T did not pass on his models to some of the talent here at MAIW to allow updating with some of the now common features particularly the F-16 before he dropped off the radar. But there you go.

IF you can get him to 'share' his F-16 source file, I would sure like to have a play with them ;)

Lots of bombs are a good thing :D

Any chance of a sound pack for the gun? The distinctive sound of it has been with me since I witnessed a test fire in @ the Ethan Allen Range..

Thanks agian for taking the time to work this up.

Just need to check them out a bit then I will get them put into a little package for you guys to download. Greg is on holiday so we might have to wait till he gets back to set up a download link on the front page. In the meantime I can probably provide a link here in the forums.

There are 4 CONUS training models, 4 Red Flag training models, 4 War models based on current OEF loadouts, 3 fuel models and a clean model, 2 Eglin test models, 2 OT Nellis test models and two WA Weapons School models.

Marco is currently researching which units have the C models now. To the best of my knowledge, there are no O/A-10 models any longer, those have all been converted to the C model and there are only a handful of A+ models still in use. So with the download we should have a pretty up to date list of which units have C models as of today.

I'll also include the two Eglin paints which were done by Aaron Haase for those two special models. There will also be two additional textures, one for the canopy and one for the new weapons loadouts. Those two textures can be placed into the FS9/Texture folder -or- can be placed into each individual texture folder, your choice. Again the new models use the old textures so no need for new paints.

According to the dutchmil website there were still some OA-10's at Osan during 2010. But we are now in 2011 so maybe not anymore.
Can hardly wait for these new models for the sim.

The O/A and A are basically the same exterior wise anyway, besides the "C" adds a few new antennas.
