New airports AIFP

Post by ConcordeBOAF »

I would love to get some WW2 P-47s flying from WW2 airports but how do I add them to AIFP?

Assuming you already have the aircraft and flightplans and you just want to add the airfields to the AIFP database:

AIFP User Manual 10.5 "Editing and Adding New Airports" or 10.6 "Airport Data Bulk Update"

But you can simply declare the airfields in the airports.txt file without having them in the database and AIFP will compile your flightplans.

The 'airports.txt' is one of three files that is generated when you create a flightplan (you really should save the three files to be able to easily make changes in the future). The aircraft.txt, flightplans.txt and airports.txt are what are compiled to make the traffic file.

In the same way that you can de-compile a traffic file to get the 3 txt files.

Now the one thing that has to be said is that you have to have an afcad for each base and waypoint that you are going to be using.
Then as Greg said you can get AIFP to pickup and permanently keep info on these airfields/waypoints. Then when you create a flightplan leg you can specify the airfield/waypoint and then AIFP will automatically add to the airports.txt file.

The precise name for the txt files will be dependent upon what the traffic file is called, if de-compiling and the traffic file will be dependent upon the txt file names if compiling.

For example :-
Aircraft_MIL_United Kingdom_RAF_Waddington_EGXW_14 Sqn.txt
Airports_MIL_United Kingdom_RAF_Waddington_EGXW_14 Sqn.txt
FlightPlans_MIL_United Kingdom_RAF_Waddington_EGXW_14 Sqn.txt

produces :-
Traffic_MIL_United Kingdom_RAF_Waddington_EGXW_14 Sqn.bgl

and vice versa

So I made an airport called BGGC. If I add BGGC to the .txt it will go there? (BGGC is not a default airport)

Yes it will as part of the compilation. However, it is not just the case of putting BGGC into the text file you will have to put in its height and its position - in a certain format as well. It would be better to put the afcad into an active scenery folder and then get AIFP to pick up all addons. That way you will never have to add it manually, AIFP will automatically add it for you.

So you are doing an airfield in Greenland. Interesting.
