What to make next?
With the Hunter and Lightning packages done, I'm trying to work out what to do next. I may choose to make some more scenery but I am also interested in continuing the line of AI retro fighters. The UK F-4 Phamtom might be appealing (Royal Navy and RAF FGR2 in FS9 and separate FSX code), but I am not sure what's already available and works well in FSX particularly. I'd welcome some comments please on whether the UK F-4 would be a popular choice or whether I could more usefully choose a different retro subject?

Re: What to make next?
Not sure what you mean there by "if models exist". If they exist, I wouldn't want to duplicate the effort. Possibly a good choice though if they don't exist and there's enough interest.

oh i thought you meant pains/flight plans
Re: What to make next?
but flightsim.com doesnt show any AI models for the Valiant, Vulcan, or Victor so it may still be a good project if people like it.
Re: What to make next?
John,
Whilst I will always welcome any Phantoms I should say that Mike Pearson is very advanced with his Brit F-4s. Obviously this doesn't stop you doing them if you feel like it.
Thinking about the sort of range that you are talking about my guess that the Buccaneer and Canberra would also fit the bill. Plenty of versions of the latter.
I know that Mike has a lot of plans for future stuff, which I would not want to divulge, so may I suggest that you contact him to co-ordinate projects. His email address is in all his downloads or you can pm here, he is mikeblaze.
Looking forward to what ever you do.

I think that Vulcan should be more than welcome...
UKMIL did it but it has only two LODs and more than 10.000 polys.

Re: What to make next?
Just another thought for the Avro Vulcan it would fit in nicely timeline wise with the Hawker Hunters and EE Lightning

Another aircraft that I always liked the look of was the Scimitar.
Like I said though anything would be welcome.

Re: What to make next?
Thanks Guys for the comments. I'm glad I kicked off the thread. It's been really useful.
I really don't want to duplicate what Mike is doing, in fact I would probably not have started the Lightning if I knew he was doing the same in parallel.
I did though want to produce for FSX primarily (I'm not sure if Mike is doing that), because that is now the most popular sim version in my experience, certainly for scenery and from my limited experience, for AI aircraft too, at least for the retro kind. Coding for the alternative sim version takes a fraction of the time having done one model, although in practice I find it easier to start with the FS9 model first, so producing both versions is not really an issue once you know how animation and visibility tagging works. Downloads for the Hunter packages, as of a few minutes ago, were 628 (FS9) and 728 (FSX), thats RAF and RN combined, giving FSX a 16% lead. I know you can port FS9 aircraft into FSX, but FSX native code gives a much better frame rate performance, never mind any transparency issues.
The Vulcan suggestion (perhaps with a Victor too) looks popular. That has the added advantage of use with my retro RAF Waddington and Marham sceneries (FS9 and FSX), although Marham would need a bit of modification.
I won't make a decision for a few days to allow others to contribute to the thread. That will also give me a chance to touch base with Mike.

My vote goes to the Buccaneer, I need it to keep my Hunters company at Honington and Lossie.
Thanks for the excellent models.
