Century Series (American Heavy Metal)

Post by mikeblaze »

To all,

I don't have a teaser picture just yet.......... that will change. This thread is for one or more upcoming retro projects, following the theme of the American Century Series fighter aircraft of the 1950s through 1980s. I have the first aircraft in advanced alpha state, almost ready for FDE work; and the second aircraft in an early primitive design state. I have plans for at least five aircraft on this thread, and one of them is a collaboration with Jake Burrus, for which my part is long overdue. All aircraft will follow the tempo of my recent Phantom, Lightning, and MiG-21 projects; obscene amounts of model variants, and nauseating numbers of repaints.

Chew on this one for a little bit, and more will follow.......mp

    Okay, here we go......

This is an alpha model for the F-102 Delta Dagger. There is a lot not done yet, but the basic model is off to the FDE shop.

Interestingly, Discovery Channel's Great Planes show have been running a repeat about the F-102 series for the past couple of days. It it they also discussed a variation where the engine intake was placed on top of the fuselage, allowing for a larger bomb bay, which looked pretty amusing.

Here's the second aircraft of this project, the F-106 Delta Dart. The intake isn't mapped yet, but this aircraft will be off to the FDE shop by tomorrow. For the truly dedicated hobbyists, both of these aircraft have generic wings for now, the Case X and Case XX wings will come later.

:) Lovely job Mike. Takes me back to my childhood when aircraft were designed around a specific job and plenty of them, now one plane does it all.

This is a total sneak peek, this model won't get attention until I finish Daggers, Darts, Phantoms, and perhaps something else. You'll see this by late fall. For KenJarvis, I can certainly work in reverse..... :P

This thread is taking me back to a lot of childhood memories. Watching the F-106s fly past my house and school. The ANG unit had a couple of T-33s as well. I don't recall every seeing an AI T-33.

    Thank you!

    To all,

This thread is far from kaput, I am just finishing my F-4 projects that I have open for now, plus the Crusader, since that is my oldest open original project (started it before the Lightning and Fishbed). In my breaks from these projects, I pick at the Century series models every week, but no pix unless a big progress is made on a particular model. I started a new primitive shape last night, I will post pix for it in the next few days. It's called Starfighter, more info to follow. I know there is a decent AI F-104 out there, but I want to do this one in my comprehensive (anal-retentive) manner, with all of the operational variants; plus the two-seater.

So, the manifest for the planned Century Series models is as follows, and will include as many operational variants as humanly possible:

F-100 Super Sabre, Jake Burrus/Mike Pearson (JMAI)
    F-101 Voodoo, Mike Pearson (MPAI)
F-102 Delta Dagger, Mike Pearson (MPAI)
    F-104 Starfighter, Mike Pearson (MPAI)
F-105 Thunderchief, Jake Burrus/Mike Pearson (JMAI)
F-106 Delta Dart, Mike Pearson (MPAI)

    More to follow.

    MP
I'm going to try to knock these out within the next year (summer 2013).
