St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport

Post by clickclickdoh »

So, theoretically speaking, if someone were to be working on this airport, how many parking spots should be provided for the USCG HC-130H and MH-60T stationed here?

Also, would the MH-60T taxi to the main runway for departure or do they use one of the taxiways?

Not sure how USCG does it but my friend who was an Army Blackhawk pilot told me she hated taking off near runways a "fast mover" would use.

According to this site, there are thirteen MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters, two HC-130H Hercules and three HC-130H7 Hercules aircraft assigned to CGAS Clearwater, and the base is expected to also receive a number of HC-27Js.

Tim - thanks for the tip on the milcom blogspot page
Gonna have to do some repainting and modifying flight plans with the new info on the aircraft locations.

Here's how I currently have my afcad (FSX) for KPIE. Larger spots are for the 130's, smaller for the helos and smaller fixed wing USCG assets. Intend on making separate helo afcad alongside 34L and remove helo spots from main.

From Google Earth, I see three large white hangars and one smaller greyish one. From the information I find, the gray one is the former National Guard hangar and is now civilian use, as is the easternmost white one, with the other two white ones still in USCG hands. It looks to me like the C-130s mostly use the west hangar and the MH-60Ts use the north hangar.

It also appears that 9/27 is closed and so is 18R/36L

I'm not sure if this is a two or three AFCAD project. Probably three. One for the main airport, one for the USCG MH-60Ts and one for the FL ARNG UH-60s.

Joe, if you'd be kind enough to make your repaints and FPs FS9 compatible, I think I might have a home for them.. theoretically speaking that is... you know, if someone were working on this project.

Will do. If someone were working on such a project for KPIE do you think they would like to have these repaints and FPs to include with said project ?

That would be most appreciated. Theoretically.

Darn. Been playing around with P3D.
Looks like I've gotta get off my butt and redo the Jayhawks for St. Pete.

Speaking of the Jayhawks, I took a break from planting trees, making fences and placing light poles to do the Coast Guard helicopter AFCAD today:

Image

The Jayhawks in the image are just the default JYAI paint called several times for testing.
The Coast Guard helicopter AFCAD is PIE2 and uses a runway under the taxiway with the red line on it:

I also did some work on rebuilding the default FS9 coastline:

Lots of detail work is still needed and I haven't even touched the National Guard part yet.

I was really hoping you would make this because I have been in dire need of a scenery for this airport I used to do a Saturday run from St Petersburg to Bangor to Las Vegas and back but stopped doing it because of the lack of scenery for KPIE and I also wasn't happy with the md 82 I was using

It should not be forgotten that creators have a life outside the MAIW forum. And they realize their sceneries and planes on their free time. So it is rare to have a precise date for the distribution of a project. You have to be patient. Patience is a great virtue.

I can't predict when we will be done with this one. This having been a holiday week here in the States, not much work got done. I did however manage to finish off the paints, flighplans and AFD for the Army units:

They are set up to use Taxiway Alpha right in front of the ramp for takeoff:

Yes, companies A and F of 5-159. Their ramp is the square of concrete all by it's lonesome at the north end.

Progress update: Joe and I are trying to work out some bugs to make it easier for FSX users to import the scenery. There's a bit of trial and error and learning period going on since I haven't really focused on FSX compatibility before.

I have had the opportunity to get the HC-130Hs ready:

Still need to do the night lighting effects for the ramps and a few touch ups on the scenery.

So, still in progress, but getting closer.
