Shaw AFB???

Post by MIKE JG »

Anyone have anything that they would like to contribute to a Shaw AFB package so that we can have something to release along with the new F-16s and paints that we are working on for that base??

We could source flight plans from Dan's original Shaw package from way back when.

I have a basic AFD file for the place that probably needs updated. Has anyone done any scenery or anything else that they would like to share??

My version of afcad, perhaps dated.

Made from scratch.
No unit assignments.

You may do what you want with it.

I'm well aware of the MAIW package, it has my AFD file in it......

I was hoping someone had done some basic scenery or updated the AFD file for it that's all.

Shelters for Falcons.

Exposed alignment issues with the afcad.

These are complete with LOD's if you want to test them.

Mike

I had a look at the ADE project again.

The method I used to create the background image from Google Earth originally, differs from the method I used now.

The issue is that the parking is a little further south than it should be.

The shelters are place over the parking spots so they fit reasonably well. One set was a bit off so I moved it better into line.

I have started with the large hangar and the set of 5 peaked hangars just south of the shelters.

Let me know what you think of the positioning an the objects so far.

Regards

John

Thanks, looks like I'm the 11th person to download it so you may have some other 'advisors' as well, lol.

We hope to have the Shaw birds ready for release by the end of the month. Might make a nice little community package when it's all said and done.

Thanks Mike

Probably should have sent it in a PM. No other feedback as yet

I have made a few more shapes. Need to get doors and textures on.

Sides to alert shelters will also be added.

Cool. I have tons of scenery models from over the years. You're welcome to use any of them you want. Tons of textures as well.

Before I forget, you will want to break the parking spot taxi links in your ADE file for KSSC so that the aircraft pull forward out of the shelters. Depending on the runway in use, half of them will push back to get where they are going. They don't push back far enough and end up turning through the shelter structure.

Yes that is a concern.

It will lead to afcads for specific runways, or maybe not.

I have an idea similar to what Vulcan Driver did for YPED.

If you break the links behind the spots, they will only park backwards when they return to a spot after landing. To me that's an acceptable tradeoff to have them properly parked the rest of the time.

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it, people will just change it for their own use if they don't like it.

Progressing slowly.

This is what I have so far.

Having to make educated guesses makes this a bit tedious.

If anyone wants a look at the files, send me a PM.

HI John,
So what's the status of this project? I would like to get a copy of these files if possible. I Fly in the CalClassic era (57-62) and I frequently use Scenery from here and retro it with Pearson and Young's retro jets etc.. along with Mods to the scenery. Would like to retro this one as well. I have also gotten quite good at modifying the apron and taxi paths to create proper parking and taxing out so aircraft always park correctly. Would be happy to do it for your project if you would like.

I can be reached at avpingel at gmail

Thanks
Al

Sadly I must confess this project has stalled a bit.

Real life issues and the frustration of producing cartoon like textures drove me to alternative gratification in colouring in paint-kits.

All rather embarrassing deep down.

There has been some progress. I have changed the parking links on the afcad. I fear that to make it "real-life real" one would have to allocate a parking to each aircraft individually and have a separate afcad for west and east departures. This would take days if not weeks to implement. I did try, but the rat-run through other parking continued. A separate loop link for each parking spot to the main taxiway might do the trick but it will be messy.

On the retro issue, the colour of the paint on the structures has changed a few times over the years. Most of the flat-top buildings have peaked roofs now and the parking layout then is very different to what it is now.

I will share the bgl's and textures I have, and you can decide what you want to use or not.
