FSX/P3D RAF Alconbury

Post by rocket_26_ »

As John has announced his plans to create a FSX coded A-10 model I thought I would share the progress of my Alconbury scenery.

In 1988 two of the six 81st TFW A-10 squadrons moved to Alconbury until they were disbanded in 1992.

These screens are all in P3D V4.

Hi Edwin

The scenery is almost finished.

I am just doing the final touches and documentation and it will be released before Christmas.

There will be a FSX and a P3D V4 coded version.

Cheers

Ian

PS I will be also releasing a update for Lakenheath not long after Christmas which enables it to work fully in P3D V4

Joseph29: Active USAF flying ops ended in 1995. Today the base is a non-flying facility, under 423rd Air Base Group control. The plan is to close the base by 2020-2022.
Myself I love retro, most of my scenery/planes are from the 1970-1990 era, I am looking forward to this superb version of Alconbury.

I can understand that people like to be up to date and I find it frustrating that a lot of the bases that were around when I joined the RAF are closing.
The nice side effect means that you can actually enjoy current and retro activity in the same sim. You just need to program the retro traffic to go between closed bases. It is always a nice surprise when you meet something unexpected in the sim. I bumped into a 527 TFTAS F-5E the other day. Lovely.

What I mean is that being a fan of current operations doesn't mean that you have to miss out on retro. You can make sure that the two don't get in each others way.

Yes it has 40 of my new A-10A's in the European One paint scheme, plus 11 of my specially made TR-1A Dragon Ladies.

As John says it will include a traffic pack featuring both of Johns fantastic AI models of the A-10 and the Tr-1A. The traffic is from 1989 which is line with the Twin Bases AI package.

It will be generated to only use RETRO bases (although they may not be in the sim) as well as the usual waypoints etc.

As pointed out Alconburys flying operations ended in 1995 and the based A-10A's/Tr-1A's were gone by the end of 1992. However there was a always a U-2 detachment from Beale up until 1995.

I am well aware that there are some that have no interest in retro scenery/AI which is fair enough. I personally prefer retro to re live the past even though I was a kid during that time. I have spent my time building the scenery due to my personal interest in that era. I think the modern era is way too watered down at least in Europe for my liking.

Nope, I didn't build the scenery for FS9. Others may have?

I stopped building for FS9 a few years ago and this to be honest will be my last for FSX.

I will only be designing for P3D V3 on wards going forward.

As a big fan of former air bases, I felt in love with this excellently built scenery. Thank you so much for sharing, Ian!

I just note one small issue on my system: All aircraft appear, but I have no movements! I think, the error sits in front of my PC as frequently, but what am I doing wrong?
I use P3Dv4, traffic bgls went directly into the v4 scenery folder as suggested, I tried several days and times, but no success so far....Each hint is much appreciated.
Regards, Manfred.

Thank you, Pete. Those A-10 are John Young's, they all come with a radio section. It is strange, because using his aircraft at Bentwaters/Woodbridge, they move fine...

Ian & John,

Ive been looking around Alconbury for a while now and just want to say thankyou for what you guys do.

This scenery is nothing but perfection and brings back so many memories of visiting that base with my brother to see 'whats in'

I remember especially when a deployment of A-7s were there from either pitsburgh or pennslyvania. we had to trudge around a farmers field to get a better view. in those days..the large upward folding hangers were being used by the tr-1s as I don't think the HAS had been constructed yet.

Johns AI get better and better and these are amazing.......

I hope that mildenhall will get the attention soon then this will create one heck of a set.

Ian, special thanks for in the past, allowing me to preview some of these sceneries as they were being put together, was a sheer joy to see them being developed...lakenheath..alconbury and upper heyford.

I'm using prepar3d and also the newer fsw....prepar3d is perfect and fsw works great apart from the lights at alconbury and the ai sounds

all the best from Tobago

Regards

Trevor
