Hi everybody,

I have to apologize again that I wasn't heard from again - but after getting my new rig close to christmas and after reinstalling all software components around New Year I got a complex system breakdown including a damaged graphics card :( . Work of a month for nothing

So currently, I am imploringly waiting for the new card. Furthermore, it will take for sure about another 2 weeks to get all stuff back installed as before.
So please be patient, the project is not dead!
Regards, Manfred.

Hi Paul (64) or all others who are familiar with RAF Brüggen those days,

does anybody know which kind of windsocks were used there? Red or orange - or any other details please?
Regards, Manfred.

I have to add a question to my request: So many experts around here had been on RAF air bases in real life, you can tell me for sure something about the standards of the used windsocks.
I will start next week to add some few more SODE animations, so the windsocks will be the latest basic objects at RAFB...
Regards, Manfred.

I am trying to think about my CGY days. Trouble is although my trade was ATC I never actually worked in a tower. Wing Ops, Sqn Ops and LATCC Mil.

What I think was the case is that they were seemingly a bright Orange-Red when brand new but I seem to recall that the CGY was a very faded tatty orange thing. My guess would be that the RAF ordered them from one place and when they faded they ended up being a pale orange.
Sorry, can't be more specific than that.
Steve

Morning Manschy as far as I remember it was orange as with most RAF bases.

Yes, they were orange - and yes, they do fade! Windsocks come in a number of varieties according to the maximum wind they will show at full deflection. IIRC, RAF windsocks are 30-35kt, as that accords with the maximum crosswind of most RAF aircraft. The cone itself is normally a 2.5m/8ft nylon type. Most GA field windsocks show about 15kts at full deflection.

Okay, today I want to go on with the latest news about RAF Brüggen.

Today the final RWY SODE animations. Thanks again for hints and help.

1. Windsocks with mobile tower, tower changes placement due to the wind direction...The mere Windsock done by Jacques-Paul Bollard.

Image

2. Stevo Leggs great Overrun Barrier, same with it - up or down depending on the wind direction...

Finally wet surfaces at RAF Brüggen. Needed some time and several experiments to get the result like it should look like at release.

Manfred that looks great. I've been following your progress with this over at FSD as well. Any chance you could put together a 'how to' for the ground reflections?

Thank you, Tim.

Yes, of course. I just need some steps to make it more accurate, I still noticed some odd appearance at dry condition.

Okay, sorry for delay, here some few steps how I made the rain reflections:

I create different polys:

1. For asphalt/concrete base textures.
These got different precipitation properties (made with MCX): Asphalt a little bit more "Reflection Scale" in section "Special Functionality"
I set it to 0,5 to 1,0 - depending on the texture you are using.
Now the concrete, it gets only 0,1 to 0,3 to give it just a few wetness. Don't forget to set "use global environment map as reflection" to "true".

2. Second poly is the wet textures overlay. I create it by my own, but you can - if you want to use some pre-built maps - use some out of the net

https://www.google.com/search?newwin...w=1920&bih=926

Bear in mind:

Simply use a texture that is similar to the base textures you want to overlay - not too blue or too dark, best choice is a similar concrete colour.... Use a puddle map out of the net (or your own built...) as ALPHA mask, import it as ALPHA mask to your overlay texture and make it both transparent. I use DXTBMP for this.
Export it into DDS format (best choice is as DXT5, but DXT3 does the job as well...)

I would recommend to create an own overlay texture, just because that way, you can use it as dark areas when it is not raining. Otherwise, you can get odd textures where your puddles are placed when it's dry.

I also made my overlay texture transparent and did the same like with the base polys, but added a lot more of Reflection Scale on it, again like your personal preferences.

3. I give the overlay polygon the highest layer of all, and after some trials and errors it finally did the job....

Hope this helps, please shout if required  ...
Regards, Manfred.

Okay, really convinced that Brüggens release date is coming nearer, today I am asking for help how to create a proper .exe file for it. This would give the scenery more expert character (lol)..
I am looking for an option to let the .exe file install all contained files into their appropirate sections:
1. Scenery
2. Effects
3. SODE
Would be great if anybody is familiar with this subject matter....
Regards, Manfred.
