FS9 Westland Wasp HAS.1

Post by SeanG »

May I present my first complete AI Aircraft package for FS9 (only... sorry!) the 'So Ugly it's almost cute' Westland Wasp HAS Mk.1

This is my first Full aircraft package for a very long time.... so please be gentle with your critique ;-)

I present my humble, simple Westland Wasp HAS.1, with 4 LODS, 9 paints, a few bits of eye candy, and simple textures (Messy...disorganised Paintkit included). The Wasp is an odd wee helicopter, which the RNZN used through till they were replaced by the Seasprite in the late 1990's. My depiction is based on the 1991 timeframe (as are most of my other RNZAF projects), but some best-guesses have been used for Ship Allocations etc at the time. In 1991 all of the fleet bar one were operational, with 03 being the only write-off, from an engine failure in 1973.

The Wasp is part of a much larger project to simulate the RNZAF in around 1991, and fills a small gap. This was developed as part of my RNZAF Base Auckland project, which includes scenery for Hobbsonville and Whenuapai, plus new models of the Wasp, Huey and Bell 47. In time (and if the COVID-19 lockdown continues too much longer) I will complete and release the remaning elements of the package.

I hope you enjoy, even though there are probably about 8 people in the world who are interested in the wee beastie!

The file was sent to the hangar this evening, so allow time for it to make it's way through the system ;-)

Oh well done Sean, that's a great achievement. I'm assuming you have an animated lift applied, which makes what you have done even better.

Thanks John,
Yep, this was the original test-bed for the lift animation I sent you all those years ago... I thought it was time I pulled my finger out and actually built a model around those animations!!

I should thank you for your tutelage over the years.. without which this would probably never have gotten off the ground.. so to speak!

Cheers

This was the Helo on my first ship in the RN - HMS Berwick a Rothesay class frigate. Great to see it modelled even if its only in FS9. Thankfully I was never asked to fly in one of them as they had an annoying habit of going swimming when you least wanted them to.

What a great model, Sean. Congratulations!

And how great it looks. Are we allowed to convert it?
Cheers,
Martin

Best have a look at the Wasp before you ask for a Scout!

Maybe I’ll do a v2 with an interior.... and removable doors for aboard ops (because of the aforementioned habit of going swimming)...

I always thought this was a stupid idea....

At least in our Nimrod you'd a chance of running away

We had a couple of Rothesay's down here in NZ! This Navy thing has turned into a bit of a rabbit hole... Because I need places for the Wasps to fly my next modelling project is HMNZS Monowai, a survey vessel, with an embarked Wasp.... I'll probably end up modelling most of our Navy now, just to give the Wasp fleet somewhere to operate from!

Small update has just been sent to the hangar. It fixes the side numbers on the right side being reversed....

I have uploaded the fixed complete package to the hangar, replace the previous download :)

Sean, is it possible to have a copy of the paint kit in .psd format. I don't have PSP and I can't open the .psp file or convert it. I would love to paint some Royal Navy versions of your Wasp.
Thanks a lot.

I think it's possible to import/convert .psp into psd.

Thanks for your reply Jon. I use Gimp which doesn't support psp format. When I tried to open it I got an error message saying it couldn't open, and I spent some time on Google last night which confirms that Gimp doesn't support .psp. it's not a huge problem, I can always make my own paint kit.
