McChord Rodeo "07"

Post by Paul »

Here are some screenshots of a realistic AFCAD I've been working on using google earth for McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma Wa.

I've been studying the flightplans for the MAIW Airshow package and can't figure out how to make destinations like, 13EM, 14EM, 13WM and so on, where the aircraft will disappear without trying to land. If anyone knows how to do this and would like to enlighten me how it's done I'd very much appreciate it. They don't show up in AFCAD. I know how to make invisible runways using AFCAD and flightplans but this baffles me.

Nice crowd there, Paul!

BTW- do you see that tail popping out of a hanger, 4th pic from the top?
It took me an hour once just to figure out that this is a scenery stuff and not mine (PAI), real AI C-17 tail
- was trying to change AFCAD then ....

Thanks Greg & Scott.

I haven't quiet finished the flightplans. Thanks for letting me know. If anyone else knows of who was there or provide a link to who was there I'd appreciate it.

Paul,
You would be speaking about waypoints.
Waypoints are simply small invisible runways where an aircraft can fly to and from.
All you need to do is create them using AFCAD, install the gps co-ords into the airport text file and add them to the flight plans.

While I'm not an expert at creating waypoints I can tell you that I think the last waypoint's altitude must be within 1500ft. of the final runway or the AI will not land.

Hopefully one of our flightplanners will chime in on this and correct me if I'm wrong...which I am alot of the time.

BTW...nice pix. Lots of heavy metal.

Hey Kevin thanks for answering, but wouldn't they show up in the AFCAD when you do a search. These don't.

Paul,
Yes, they should show if you pull them up in AFCAD. But they may only show as the little purple dot that is the airfield center. When you make them invisible, they won't show as runways in AFCAD.

Does that make sense? LOL

Yes, but when I open up AFCAD and go to file, open airport, a window appears. I type in 13EM in the Airport ID box and push search. Nothing appears in the box bellow.

Paul, you can have waypoints only in your flightplan.txt without create an airport with fictious runway (100Mt lenght ; 1Mt width) for them.I've used this method for flight formation.
BTW, search for WAYPOINT in the forum and you'll fill all you need.

So there is no need to build a small, invisible airport with AFCAD?
Simply add the gps co-ords in the airport text?

YesSIR!
In the airport.txt not in flightplan.txt as I wrote.

There are a couple of interesting tread explaining what you can do with waypoint, I learned about that on this forum

Cheers

That is correct, but be aware that the AI aircraft will disappear at the waypoint, because it can not find an airfield.

If you don't want that to happen (e.g. because you want to be able to follow the aircraft throughout the whole flight) you have to make an AFCAD with fake runway.
