Oh Manfred, how you have grown your skills! That's terrific work and I bet all those trees don't impact the frame rate at all.

Thank you both very much. Indeed, my current PC system is an indicator for frame limits LOL (i5-2500 @ 3.7Ghz). As soon it starts to stutter, I will stop adding any more trees 8-).
Trees are simply added: The farer the distance, the bigger the texture planes with more trees on each. The closer you come (or more important the location is (for example runways, buildings, roads etc. where the user moves along closely)), the smaller the planes get with finally only one tree on it. These trees surround the bigger planes and the farer you go the forrest seems to be made of thousands of pines. Just a little magic trick...
Glad you like it!
Regards, Manfred.

Manfred, great to see you are doing another RAFG cold war airbase! Less than a week ago I made a P3Dv4 flight with Aerosoft's Lightning F2A from your RAF Gutersloh scenery (November 2017 beta version). Everytime I launch a flight from RAF Gutersloh, I am stunned by the awesome ground textures, the superb objects and excellent frame rates.

First work on the nuclear weapon areas done. A little tricky to fit the ground poly there with the forrest and areas dry ground...

https://abload.de/img/etur_wa_2eucsu.jpg

Centre buildings are taking shape....

But most time consuming work is creating the hard surface polys like concrete and asphalt to make them look real.

That's coming on extremely well Manfred. Well done.

Just a question about your custom trees - you seem to have fall textures applied, when the surrounding ones look like summer or spring?

Thank you, John. No, the surrounding green trees are the ORBX trees, unfortunately ORBX seems to know only one kind of leaf trees and coniferous trees by one style. The textures I took from the pines are quite more differently coloured, with quite more brown tints in it:

https://abload.de/img/etur_pinescaf1m.jpg

https://abload.de/img/etur_pines_2bcc3p.jpg

Furthermore, especially the bigger planes, got more grey inside. Indeed I will play around a little with the colour balance to better match the surrounding trees. But not too much, because getting too much green colour on the pines they look even more like leaf trees.

Oh, well, and I "pimped" the screens a little to let them look more real 8)

I would try those a little greener Manfred. That might give a better match to ORBX and the default autogen trees.

Hi Manfred
Someone mentioned your RAF Gutersloh scenery, but I have searched for it here on MAIW and can't see it. Where can we find it, and have you made other airbases (in Europe)?
BTW.Bruggen looks great, can't wait to fly there and get som ai traffic fly there as well. :-)

Thank you, Jorn. RAF Gütersloh is only released for FS9 so far, FSX/P3D versions is in development to RAF Brüggen simultaneously but far more completed. Because RAF Gütersloh will be released with two field manouvre areas for the Harriers, and hopefully with seasonal textures, it still will take a little more time...

Sorry for delay.

For both air bases FS9 versions are already done. Due to the early state of development skills, RAF Brüggen in a few detailed variant though. RAF Gütersloh I think you will be very satisfied with however...

Both sceneries you can download at AVSIM and Flightsim...

Pics of RAF Gütersloh for FSX and P3D development will follow soon here under Developers Hangar..

Just to keep in step with John's Tornado development  , today a few pics of some of Brüggen's main areas - SHQ, Main Entrance and the almost completed Tower Area...

First tests with SODE animated objects, the QRA gates. No idea how to get the red lights working simultaneously with the gates though...

Wow! I didn't anticipate this project coming. My dad was based at Bruggen circa 1961, and my wife's dad was at Gutersloh in the 1970's, so once we get those two little beauties into FSX, our family histories will be complete (almost). My wife's dad went on to serve at Marham (thanks ACG), but my dad went to Feltwell (lol).

Welcome to the forum norfolkmike. I love it when users of our offerings have an affinity with the subject matter, particularly the retro ones. I'm sure Manfred will agree.

Totally, John. It's a pleasure to meet people in the Flightsim world who also know the real places.
So welcome, Mike. Just a question: Did you visite RAF Brüggen maybe when the Base was still open? If so, you maybe can give me some few valuable answers regarding some details which I have a tough time with....

Hi John, and thanks for the welcome.

Manfred...I have to disappoint you with regards to having any knowledge of Bruggen I'm afraid. You see, my dad served there in 1961, which was also the year I was born lol.

Okay, so I'll cut a long story short. My Dad was English (no surprise there), but my mother was Dutch. They met in her hometown of Eindhoven, as 'dad' often crossed the border for some unknown reason. Anyway, they met, things happened, they got married and I was born... (in Eindhoven).

Very shortly after that, Dad was posted to RAF Feltwell, and of course, Mum and I went too. So, although I know my dad was there, I have no recollection of it. In fact my very first memories are from Feltwell.

My wife's circumstances were actually very similar, in that she was at Gutersloh, but that was later, and she was older. She does have memories from 'Gut', but as that one has already been released, it won't be of much help.

I apologise if I got your hopes up! My Dad would remember certain things I'm sure, but I only see him once a year lol.

Anyway, just to say, I'm thoroughly enjoying he sceneries already released here (I only just found Lakenheath, which is only a fifteen minute drive for me), and I'm really looking forwards to the FSX version of Gutersloh, and especially Bruggen, to see where it all began!

Thanks guys!
