SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
Hi Guys
After I've cloned my C and D HDDs to my SSDs using the same drive letters, FS9 no longer loads after the splash screen. Any ideas why this should be? Do I need to re-install FS9 again? Win 7 is now much faster BTW.
TIA

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
This rings a bell but I can't remember exactly what the issue was. It sounds like it is looking for something that it can't find.
Try renaming the C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9 folder, this contains all the saved files - barring the scenery.cfg - and retry. This should build a new folder and cfg file.
You can always rename it back if there is no change. If it works you can copy across your saved files one by one until system is back.
If you don't fancy that try using ProcMon to look for failure messages for FS9. It may point to something that is missing.
Can you also confirm that you have physically removed the old drives. It may be that something is pointing to the old physical drive.

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
Hi Steve
I can confirm all HDDs have been removed. I did as you suggested but FS9 still wont load beyond the spash screen.
Think I'll do a reinstall into its default location and see if that will work.
Cheers

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
What Windows Version? In a windows update this year they broke FS9 loading... it starts but then freezes. Go to the Task Manager and kill fs9.exe, then start it again....
Happens on my Win7Pro64, so I've written a startup batch file for FS9 which starts, waits, kills then re-starts fs9.exe

Reinstalled FS9 clean install but still won't load. About to give up on it!

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
I'd a similar prob a while back. Check taskmanager there may be a rundll31.exe that is taking up a lot of cup as well as a second fs9.exe with 0 activity. It's safe to stop it.VulcanDriver wrote:Reinstalled FS9 clean install but still won't load. About to give up on it!

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
John,
Try a batch file like this:
cd /D C:\FS9
start "fs9" fs9.exe
timeout /T 60
taskkill /F /IM fs9.exe
timeout /T 5
start "fs9" fs9.exe
Change the folder/drive locations to suit, and play with the time-outs...
Cheers

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
John,
Just checking, are you using the supplied FS9.exe or the NoCD patch.

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
Thought there was a possibility of the cause being CD security.

Re: SSD upgrade. FS9 not loading
Spot on Steve. I removed the update when it first came out, but the sneaky buggers put it in a update bundle recently.
The SSDs are magic for FS9. Loads very fast, no need to go and brew a cuppa waiting for it to load now.
Going to have 3 installs, 1960s, 1980s and present day.
Cheers
John
