New computer.

Post by KevinJarvis »

I am on the verge of purchasing a new computer. I know what I want as far as hardware goes in order to run FS9.

What I'm confused about is, should I stick with XP or will FS9 run well on Vista?

I've scoured many other forums regarding this topic and from what I've seen and read, the camps are split right down the middle.

I'd like to hear from the Vista users and get an opinion.

But if you've got a newer machine but you're still using XP, I'd like to hear your side of the story too.

Thanks,
KJ

XP over Vista ANY DAY.

A machine running Vista will be approx 25% slower than an identical machine running XP.

Well, I can not quarry with Kevin opinion but ...
my current config is:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor (~cheap now)
ABIT IP35 Dark Raider Socket 775 Motherboard
GEIL DDR2 ULTRA DUAL 2x1GB 800MHz 2GB CL4-4-4-12 RAM memory
Palit XpertVision GeForce 8800GTS 320MB DDR3 (320-bit) 500/1600 (PCI-E16x) video card
and
Vista 64bit (DirectX 10 and such upcoming candies, you know ...)

Everything looks like running smooth (FS2004 at least as FSX has to be installed yet, with SP1 of course).

Thanks for the info guys.

I was thinking about transferring XP onto the new machine as a back up in case I didn't like Vista.
