Crap, the jaggies are back!

Post by MIKE JG »

I updated my NVidia driver last night to the latest version. Now anti-aliasing does not work in FS2004. No matter what I've tried, it will not "anti-alias". Now I've got the dreaded jaggies once again. I hate those little buggers.

So I start researching this issue on the internet and come to find out, this seems to be an issue for a whole bunch of people using all the different series of NVidia graphics cards, even the latest 8 series cards. Seems to be a lot of p!ssed off people right now. Apparently it affects some users more than others and works in some video games but not others like FS2004.

Has anyone else run into this? If you haven't updated your NVidia drivers lately, you may want to hold off for a bit till this is sorted out.

Latest driver is 169.21.

I guess I could try to install an older driver version and see if that helps.

Can't you just roll back the driver?

You mean go back to the previous version?

Mike,
I've read where it might work better if you uncheck AA in the sim but check it ON in the nVidia control panel.

To be honest, Mike, I had it nailed down, amending the copied profile, and then the usual work around didn't work under 169. So I came up with a cunning plan.
Deleted the fs9 profile entry and set the global settings to want you want for fs9.

No more jaggies. Hope it helps.

Yeah... based on your post I got the impression that your previous drivers were working satisfactory.

However, probably try out Steve's suggestion before rolling back.

Yep try Steve's suggestion. I think it was posted on the EvAI forums as well some time ago and worked for me (8800GTX).

Simply put its a method for making edges look smooth instead of jagged. If your wings, tail fin etc has small jagged edges adding AA will smooth them out.

This might turn into a long thread on how to tweak FS graphics. Anyways thanks for all the tips, I'll give them a try.

MACC,
Mike is right, the one concrete thing that we have learnt over the last few years is that there is no simple parameter change that fix things.

Everyone has a different PC, its a case of reading every post you can find on it and see if it makes it better, worse or has no effect on your machine.

Very unsatisfactory.
