FS9 crash on start up
I keep getting a crash when I load FS9. I first get an error message that says your computer has run out of memory. When I view problem details I see fault module name as MFC70.DLL...any ideas on how to fix this? I have tried a restart so far. I am using windows 7.
Re: FS9 crash on start up
Mark did you do a google search on that module name? Sometimes that brings up useful info.

Re: FS9 crash on start up
yeah, all i've gotten is that it has to do with C++ I also found something that said the problem was IE7 which required me to delete a DLL in the root folder, still no luck. even did a restore
Re: FS9 crash on start up
Does this crash happen everywhere or just at one location?
Is there a C++ runtime error message when it crashes or does it go straight to desktop?

Re: FS9 crash on start up
It happens about 3 seconds after I click on the FS9 icon. This is the message I am getting.
I also read it may have something to do with paging files...not sure what that is tho. I have more than enough hard drive space and ram. not sure what the deal is. havn't even added any new programs, or an installed anything into fs9 since the lemoor package was released. have had no problem at all untill today.

Mark,
Try sending Marco a PM (Dakotafreak) he had the same problem as you have last year.

He is back up and running so he should be able to help you.Dakotafreak wrote:Guys,
I haven't fired up my sim for a week or two, but when I wanted to tonight I got this message:
"Your computer has run out of available memory. Flight Simulator will now exit. You may
not have enough free space on your hard drive. Run Disk Cleanup to free up space, and then
try running Flight Simulator again"
I don't think the "free space" is the problem, I have 850 gigs free space on my FS drive...
Also I can't think of anything weird I installed lately.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Marco

Re: FS9 crash on start up
thanks Mark, sent him a message. If I can't get this problem sorted, I may very well uninstall fs9 for the last time. It seems I do about 2 fresh installs a year. I can understand when it something I do but this is completely out of nowhere lol.
Re: FS9 crash on start up
How much memory does your PC have?
I am wondering if its to do with the fact that you may have more memory than XP was designed for and that this is causing a problem for FS9, but I guess we should wait to see what Marco says.
In the meantime try this as a potential solution http://social.answers.microsoft.com/For ... cc84748c40

Re: FS9 crash on start up
Thanks Steve, I have 6gb of ram installed. I tried what you posted lat night but when I did it I still got the same crash on start up. I even tried rebuilding the paging file but the problem remains. I can't figure out for the life of me what caused this. I also just updated my nvidia driver today but no luck there either...

Re: FS9 crash on start up
is there an easier way of reinstalling fs9 without having to manually reinstall everything? starting to think its my only option.

Re: FS9 crash on start up
will check the fs9 disc for a repair option, don't think there is tho. I restored it back as early as it would let me, still no go I do appreciate all of the help tho.
Re: FS9 crash on start up
Before I re-install FS9 I always copy or backup my FS9 partition. That way once I reinstall I can copy back over the top the important bits one directory at a time, if necessary until I find the problem. This method should enable you to very quickly be able to reinstall all your addon aircraft and scenery. It should save a hell of a lot of time.
Don't forget to back up your fs9.cfg file as well.

Re: FS9 crash on start up
I have now been able to make fs9 use more than 2 gb ram, and have found out that my problem is due to a bad scenery file. just figuring out which one now, I can confirm it is not a maiw scenery.
Re: FS9 crash on start up
Cool. I am glad that you are making progress, even if it is slow.
