US Navy C-40s

Post by JohnTenn »

I have been looking to update the US Navy C-40s on the FAIB B737-700 model.

I have now, what I believe is, a reasonable template.

Questions I have are the following:

Is the colour I have representative?

Is the info on Scramble.nl reasonably up to date, with reference to serials etc?

Is there someone out there who is willing to check the paints?

Are the flightplans for the airliners still relevant? (Part 2 and Part 4)

Thank you.

I have made the grey underside lighter already.

I have also found photo's of the individuals at JetPhoto's and Airlines.net.

"Eyebrow" and short nozzle versions.

My choice of initial registration was unfortunate as it is on one of the 2 versions Juergen Baumbusch painted.
I am of the opinion the aircraft he painted are too dark.

It comes down to choice after all.

I will send you a PM.

Please accept my sincere apologies.

I meant no disrespect.

I displayed a lack of care and got myself confused.

I woke up this morning with the horrible realisation of what I had done.

Fifteen painted up.

I will upload the DXT3 textures soon.

The paints were done on the FSX paintkit so, if anyone wants them, I will share the 2048x2048 .tga files. All have same alpha channel and lightmap so conversion to FSX would be less troublesome.

I do not have realistic flight plans yet so I will not include them for now.

It would seem that I am not able to express myself properly these days.

I apologise, I will take more care in future.

The paints are for FS9 Dxt3,1024x1024

If someone would like to convert the textures to FSX format I will gladly supply the 2048x2048 .tga files to assist you.
I do not have FSX, so I have not taken the trouble to configure the textures for FSX.

I have painted the textures on the FSX paintkits because it is easier to manipulate items in the larger format and some details are not present in some of the FS9 paintkits.

Also the quality of the source material is better suited to FSX.

For the time being I will only upload the FS9 textures in order to reduce the size of the download in the MAIW library.

John,
If you wanted to make both sets of schemes available what you can do is load up a pack for FS9 and a separate pack for FSX. IF you have a look at JY's packages that he has released that is what he does to a) keep the downloads to the smallest possible and b) avoid confusion as to which paints are to be installed into which sim.

Steve

I have uploaded the FS9 paints.

I have no idea how to get the alpha channel and lightmap into the .dds textures. Unfortunately the alpha channel for FS9 and FSX for the FAIB models is radically different.

My idea was to get someone to volunteer to convert the textures to .dds and upload them. Not everyone has the know how, including myself.

I know it is a bit awkward, but there it is. If it comes down to it I will even share the paint-kits.

Ah that makes sense.
I admit that I do cheat whenever I have to convert a DDS to a DXT3.

Firstly and most importantly, you have to flip the image vertically. You can use any graphic tool you like for this or DXTBmp will do it for you.
1. What I would do firstly is to download an FSX scheme for the model you want to use.
2. Load YOUR scheme into whichever tool you would prefer to use, flip it and save it.
3. Load the downloaded scheme into your tool and see if the orientation of both it and your scheme is identical.
4. Next part is the alpha. The easiest way is to load the downloaded FSX scheme into DXTBmp and export the alpha.
5. Now load your flipped scheme in and import the saved alpha and then save the scheme.

Hopefully all is OK and then all you have left is the laborious task of doing the same to the other 14 schemes except that you have already exported the alpha and that saves you one operation each time.

Hopefully this helps.

Steve

Thanks

You got me to look at the obvious.

I modified the alpha I extracted, to add the small dome at the back.

I am hoping that I did not corrupt anything.

Now I would like a FSX user to come forward to test one texture to make sure it works properly.

The down side is you would have to send me an e-mail address on a PM.

No problem.
Normally its a simple thing to make sure you have the correct alpha but the FAIB 737s are different, and I believe I have this correct, in that he made the one model to include all the lumps and bumps and then use the alpha to exclude the bumps not required on that version.

It can make it so that you end up testing a few frogs before you find your prince.

Asdro

Are you looking for 32 bit textures specifically?

What size? 2048x2048 or 1024x1024.

The 2048 textures in 32bit are 16mb and do not compress much, so I am not keen to send them or upload them.

I have figured out how the FSX "alpha-lightmap" fits so I am now able to do them.
