Duxford September Show

I don't normally do Duxford shows but as this was going to be the only time to see the 2 Lancasters in the air I couldn't pass up the opportunity. It seems most of the country couldn't either, for the 1st time a Duxford show actually sold out. & the traffic getting in seemed to back this up. We got lucky with the traffic as we missed the build up on the hard shoulder of the M11 southbound, somehow we missed the only sigh that said queue on the hard shoulder, anyway we took a 32 mile detour & queued northbound which was a lot faster.

Anyway the show itself was very good, the light wasn't as you'll see but everything at least displayed. On with the pictures....

Those are beautiful shots Dan and my hat's off to you for capturing the colour and detail against a backlit bright sky. It's always difficult photographing from the crowd line at Duxford because the sun is in your face until late afternoon. I failed miserably photographing the two Lancasters because of that. However, I have a lasting memory of the two of them flying straight over my house a couple of weeks ago, very low and into the sun and just over an aircraft length apart. The sound was amazing which is why I managed to get into the garden in time. I live 160 miles from Coningsby, so it was pure chance and pure magic.

I've never known traffic like that at Duxford. We were stuck on the M11 hard shoulder for 15 minutes at 07.50, but looking in the mirror at 8am, the tail must have stretched back at least a mile. Fortunately I had a Gold Pass so it only took 5 minutes to exit at the end of the event.
