As much as I want to see this thing's numbers greatly reduced to something realistic, between this and the X-47, they're getting there.

At the moment I would so very little. The trouble is that with new combat aircraft expected to last for 30+ years I am not sure that the F-35 is going to last that long.
Maybe some smaller number of existing stop-gap aircraft would be prudent.
Having said all that I get the feeling that so much money has been spent that nobody will have the guts to cancel it any more.

It's a catch 22 as we say over here, they're so expensive that the only way to make them cheaper is to make lots and lots of them which means getting as many sales as possible.
The politicians have gotten smart over here, with a project this large, they spread out the production to as many different US states as possible so that when someone suggests canceling the whole thing, there are too many people and jobs affected to make it a politically smart move.
