One less JYAI MH-60M to paint

Post by clickclickdoh »

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-33876269
A US military helicopter has crashed off the coast of the southern island of Okinawa, Japanese officials say.
The Kyodo state news agency said 17 crew members were rescued, and seven people were injured.
Japan's defence ministry said the crash happened near Camp Schwab, the US Army base on the east coast of the island.
Kyodo said police confirmed that the helicopter crashed as it tried to land on a ship at sea. The exact cause is not yet known.
From the picture it's definitely a MH-60M. Looks like everyone but the bird came out alive.

Agree, searching for more details, but glad everyone got out. Unlike the USMC, standard Army guys do not get any ditching training.

Excuse me, but we, in our unit (PR army Natl Guard) did have to have water survival training (once yearly) and dunker training at Norkfolk VA. At least one dunker and then pool, egretion from the seat afterwards. The water survival was in conjunction with the Coast Guard or Navy for the extraction on the basket or sling. Being PR an island, we had to do the water thingie.

PS. This is an old photo, could'nt find a more recent one with the CG Doulphin helos.

lewis, this was directed to the passengers (ie regular soldiers) and not the crew. All crewmembers that have an overwater mission or are about to conduct overwater missions will be current on dunker and have the LPU attached to their ALSE vest. I'm very aware of what this unit (SOAR) was doing at the time of the incident, regardless it was good to read everyone got out.
