An article in this morning's USA Today was titled "Voters say no to jet base"..
Seems Cecil Field will not be reopening due to complaints and concerns by short-sighted, whiney local interest groups.

Who says we don't live in an unreal world of fantasy?

Voters say no to jet base

"I may be old and slow, but when I waddle down the hill to a group of cows, I get 'em all - unlike the randy young bulls who get too excited and are totally spent after fun with just one."

I remember when the F-15s at Tyndall were cracking the concrete of the buildings near the flightline from their afterburners on take off. Talk about some noise....
"Jet Noise........the Sound of Freedom" use to be a saying around alot of our bases. Wish I lived near one just to hear it...

I live near RAF Wattisham, which used to be home for the RAF's Phantoms (and Lightnings before that). Now it's been turned over to the Army and has Lynx and Apache choppers there instead, and now the locals all moan about the drone of the helicopters!!
Wish they'd give us the jets back!!!

Where did I put my beer??!
I know what you mean, Alex.
I remember how the natives near Upper Heyford used to moan about the noise and all those pesky Yanks, then within a year of the base closing they were moaning that the local economy had been decimated and that people were leaving the area. Doh!
The moral is that people really don't know when they are well off.
