Updated FSX Native HTAI C-130 Family

Post by Greg »

For those who don't frequent the Alpha India Group forums:

A small team of forum members has permission from Henry to convert his freeware models to FSX native code and distribute them to the community. They have already done the Cessna 208B, DHC-6, the Learjets and now the entire C-130 family. In addition to the better frame rate they should give you in FSX/P3D, a couple of new animations were added as well.

They are available at our friends from AIG in this thread.

Can they be used with the MAIW packages i.e. with the fs9 textures and if so do you just have to just swap the model and air files over??

Good day and Happy New Year

Just a WARNING if you use this set. Nothing serious but there are some "typos" at the "model.cfg".

Just double check the ones you will use and compare them, "model file name" with the "model.cfg" entry. If you dont, you will have invisible aircraft here and there!

Is this about replacing the C-130's in our early WoAI installer packages with the converted models? If not then please make a new topic with your question.
AI models are not designed to be user flyable due to special flight dynamics and animations. That's why most AI model designers also hide their aircraft in the aircraft selection menu in FS9. If you want user flyable aircraft, then this is not the website you're looking for :)

Hi,
I purposely made the model names different so that people (especially me) didn't inadvertently overwrite the original FS9 model. Just in case you don't like the FSX versions then you can roll back easily.

Also you need to choose whether to use the version of the model with or without lightmaps (since FSX lightmaps are on all the time).

thanks

Hi Gavin,

Its just if someone didnt notice that, to be warned and know what to looking at for correction, nothing more nothing less!

Thanks for the heads up, was not tracking this at all. Love my HTAI Hercs and have been fine with Martin's prop texture replacement for years. For sure the most numerous AI model I have in my sim.

Hi,
Just to let you know that Tony, Graham and I have released an updated set of C-130s with "FS9 style" night lighting that comes on a few minutes (somewhere between 7 - 10 min, seems to depend on the aircraft) before taxi and turns off a few minutes after parking.
I tried to include the "green slime" position lights on the C-130Js but you may have to do some tweaking of the alphas & lightmaps to get them aligned correctly with the various repaints as there seems to be no standard placement of these lights.

Also check out the updated Gulfstreams and Learjets for carrying around the top brass.

The C-130s are on the AIG Forum site in the link at the top of this thread. the biz jets and several other HTAI models updated for FSX are also on the same site.

thanks
Gavin

Ouch, importing the alpha channel manually into more than a thousand herc paints is going to be a pain, but still very much appreciated. :smt023

Many thanks for the conversion. And to Henry for his approval.

HI Martin,
thanks for the screen shots, glad to see it works in your setup.

Mark - yes it is a "bit" of a pain. I haven't figured out any way to script the process unfortunately.

Hi Gavin,

That is indeed true - I would take money in the hand for a tool that would allow merging an alpha channel with a texture. Speaking of all the Tornado, Eurofighter and Mirage 2000 textures I have updated for FSX compatibility.

Let me follow up on this one a bit....
Cheers,
Martin

Gavin has given us the permission to offer the FSX model set here in the download center. That is very much appreciated and we say 'thank you'!

It might be wise to coordinate the conversion of the C-130 fleet if this is going to happen...
Cheers,
Martin
