F-111E/F and EF111A (JY)
This has been work in progress for just under a year.
I thought at the time that the F-111 would be a really good learning exercise because of the complex animation and that proved to be so and actually quite good fun. My intention at the outset was to build enough F-111E’s and EF-111A’s to populate the Upper Heyford scenery being designed by Ian McCartney at ACG. He particularly needed the greater efficiency of the native FSX code in FSX because of the number of aircraft involved. However, I also built the FS9 models too, just in case.
I did actually finish the 4 Upper Heyford models and 5 sample paints for each sim, 8 months ago, but the work has stayed in storage, awaiting the scenery. It’s a really large scenery design to undertake to Ian’s standards and it needs a lot of time. Rather than continuing to leave the aircraft unused, I decided to release them now, for enthusiasts to use as they wish.
Just to increase the interest a tad, I decided a few weeks ago to add a Pave Tack/Paveway 10 GBU model in Lakenheath and Cannon AFB colours. I also included a representative paint scheme for Mountain Home AFB with the higher visibility insignia. I didn’t really want the additional work of creating some of the extended wing-span models/intake configurations and I apologise to users who might have wanted these, especially the Australian contributors here. However, I hope there is enough here for users to have some fun with. A paint kit for each texture is included. There are no flight plans or AFCADs alas.
Here’s the line-up of the 5 models/8 paints (FSX screens):
Here's the far end of the line:
The real world configurations of the wings and control surfaces is quite complicated – parked (cold), parked (hot), taxi, take-off, climb-out, cruise and landing. In the end I just opted for two – Fully swept forward (16 degrees) for all gear down states and swept back (54 degrees) with gear up.
Here’s my cleaned up cruise state:
Everything is done, documented and zipped (FS9 and FSX) ready for uploading to flightsim.com early tomorrow.
I’ll confirm the release of the files here.
