Carswell + B-58

Post by VulcanDriver »

Hi All

Returning to the fold. I'm looking for a freeware Carswell AFB and AI B-58 to go with it.

Anyone know if any are available?
John

John,

I don't know about the availability of Carswell AFB scenery, but there is no AI B-58 that I know of quite yet.

    Hi Mike

You tease ;) I love the Hustler. What an amazing a/c and years a head of time. Got the Revell 1/48 kit for Xmas. Did you know the the RAAF were interested in buying it but took the F-111 instead? Even the RAF were looking at it as replacement for the Vulcan at one stage.

    Cheers

    John,

No, I didn't know that both the RAAF and RAF considered getting them.

I saw one up close and personal at the USAF Museum several years ago and it was one very impressive aircraft and obviously way ahead of its time.

Hi Mike when the TSR 2 was cancelled both the RAF and RAAF went looking for a supersonic bomber, they both wanted the TSR2. The UK also looked at the Mirage IV. But in the end the UK selected the F-111K which was also cancelled! A B-58 in RAF markings would look cool as a what if :D

Actually, I thought there is an AI B-58, it came with the old Alphasim/Vertavia Bunker Hill package. I will see if I can find it on my spare harddrive.

When I asked M.Pearson about it in the Century thread, he told that someone was working on that. May be Mike has some news.

That one was not made available when the scenery became freeware. The B-58 is ranking thirteenth in the missing AI poll. I am not aware of it being on anybodies list - neither openly nor hidden.

Just an interesting note: The singer John Denver's father was an Air Force pilot who flew the B-58. Last name of course was not really Denver! Only the very best were selected to fly the B-58. Ron

The AI B-58 is now included in the payware TeamSDB US Airfields Vol 2, which is where I found Bunker Hill aka Grissom AFB. Seems no one has done Carswell.

Jorge Rechani and Juan mArtinez have one in their Texas Airports 1962 scenery on FlightSim.com. They were working on B-36s for AI. Not sure about B-58s.
