RAF hercules Fleet early 70s

Post by delbydoo »

Any takers? Just need to do all of the serials now that I've got the schemes sorted out......from circa 71-72, so the bulk will all have moved from Fairford to Lyneham but with 36 Sqn still at Akrotiri. It's gonna be a long night. Anyone fancy doing some flightplans, to take in areas such as Singapore, Aden, Malta, Iran and the likes? I (and a few others I would imagine) would be very grateful.

Ah the memories. Saw them everyday flying over Littlehampton from Thorney Island.

When I was younger I could never understand why the transports used the desert scheme but it does bring back the memories. Nice work.

I later learnt they Thorney Island Herks were from an OCU and they flew over us to RAF Tangmere, which was still MOD in those days, for practice cargo drops.

Here we go......practically the whole original RAF Herk fleet - less about 5 that had been lost since entering service. Flightplans for both the UK and for 70 Sqn (not 36 as I originally stated) at Akrotiri, but if anyone wants to do better plans and share them, I won't complain

Super stuff Daryl and that brings back so many memories as they were also in and out of Kemble several times a week to be used as the Red Arrows support aircraft taking the ground crew to anywhere in the UK or further afield where the team were displaying. There is scope there for really oddball routes, Stornoway, Keflavik, Goose Bay, Claremont Ferrand, Suda Bay etc etc etc.

Thanks Brian; the plans were only very roughly done, but I tried to include as many places as they don't fly to these days (I think that made sense); embarrassingly I don't think I included Kemble in there. May have to revise that a little.
