Re: Most wanted AI aircraft poll resetted
Martin, I would like to add a couple Grumman retro jets, The F9F-3/5 Panther and the F9F-6/8 Cougar.

Re: Most wanted AI aircraft poll resetted
Martin, thought of a couple more US Navy retro birds that would be fun to see in the Silver wings skies. How about the Douglas F-4D Skyray, (the Ford) and the Vought F7U Cutlass.
With Mike Pearson's wholehearted depiction of the USAF's golden years Century Series, it would be fun to have some of the Navy's aircraft, also. I'm sure we can come up with a few more interesting to the US fans. I'm sure there are a lot of aircraft of European and Russian/Chinese designs that would be nice to have in a retro world, for us "old guys"
There are a lot of aircraft in the list now that I would love to see. (If only I had the time and talent to learn how to model in the virtual world.) But there are still a lot to be added.

I don't like it when Uncle Mike gets cross...
Absolutely NOT for want of trying......honest, I did - and I'm sure that if I had half as much patience that I have with my repainting as I could have with modelling, I would have finished that Meteor by now......Give me 6 weeks, where I don't have to work and can spend 8 hours a day (25 if you're Mike P) going through all the tutorials, I might, just might, get a paper aeroplane out of it.....

Same goes for me! I have both FSDS and GMax, but my brick still won't fly!! And it's not square, yet! I need a 6 month paid vacation to learn how to use them! Any offers??delbydoo wrote:I don't like it when Uncle Mike gets cross...

Me three! My modelling career has pretty much crashed and burned over the insanely lengthy time it takes to apply textures. Not like the olden days of Hammer and Half-Life map making, that's for sure!

Re: Most wanted AI aircraft poll resetted
Guys just start from Mikes amazing tutorials.I remember when I started I didn't even finished all tutorials and my PC-7 was ready. After first three models you can produce AI per month.Start with easy one.Try to produce shape of some glider and examine what happens when compile.Sometimes points move a bit.Try to have shared points for fuse and wings so that model looks nice. And never use boolean operation

YESS SIR !!!!MIKE JG wrote:I want you all to get a copy of FSDS and start making models for me dammit!!
BTW, FSDS is 1/2 price for the next few days !
Scenery object texturing for me turned out OK .However I'm about to find out how hard it is for aircraft .
Miljan, well said post I agree withal you've said .

Thanks for the info. I am getting my copy today.
Re: Most wanted AI aircraft poll resetted
Daryl and Don here's a tip that might help you. the CAD modeling programs that I have used in the past for aviation art used the format shown in the 1st pic. Since all profile A/C views are drawn with the pointed end at the left it made sense to me to "draw" the A/C in FSDS as I've presented in the 1st jpg thus. Also since most high performance jets wingspan is shorter than the fuselage length they'll fit better in the top view . I have no idea why the FSDS designer did it is why because IMHO it's not intuitive . A sly observer will notice that I've drawn the side view in the wrong place for the FSDS View
Go to Expanded View and rotate till aligned properly
Once you've gone in Parts Mode ,selected all and rotated the model ,it will look like this and be ready to apply the Texture Templates
Sounds much more complicated than it is actually to do

Re: Most wanted AI aircraft poll resetted
Actually, I was well along on the fuselage for the A-7 Corsair II, but never could get the shape right, no matter how hard I tried. I tried separate parts for the nose cone and intake, tried extruding them, tried everything I could think of. Never got to the wings or tail. Couldn't even get the tailpipe right. So frustration won out. And I gave up. Just don't have the time to spend on it anymore, because of RL requirements.
