Vickers Valiant

Post by John Young »

With the warm weather competing and plenty to do outside, I'm just relaxing with something fairly simple at the moment. It's a Vickers Valiant in both the anti-flash white and camo paint schemes. I hope there's some interest - there's 65 votes for the model on the Owl's Nest poll of most wanted AI aircraft.

Here's a few FS9 screen shots:

The models will complete my V-Bomber trio of the Vulcan, Victor and Valiant for FS9 and FSX.

The next job is to make the LODs and do the FSX conversion. I'm not planning to make any retro scenery, but I wonder if anyone has produced RAF Gaydon, Honington, Wittering or Wyton as they were in the early 1960s that we could utilise please? I will in any case provide 2 complete squadron paints (one white, one camo) so users can set them up as they wish.

Looking great John. One of my favorites! Any chance you can squeeze in the B.2 WJ954 in gloss black?

I don't think so, David. Only one was ever built and didn't go into production. It had a lengthened fuselage and rearward folding undercarriage into large nacelles on the wing trailing edges. It would be a lot of work for something of a niche within a niche.

The Valiants are all done for FS9 and FSX. I've painted up 10 examples of the B(K)Mk.1 in each of the anti-flash and low level camouflage schemes. These are FSX screen shots:

To reiterate, these are AI aircraft only. No scenery or flight plans are included. I am pleased to say that the packages are a long standing intention to complete my RAF V-Force trio (white and camo):

The two packages plus paint kit have been sent for inclusion in the Download Hangar this afternoon.

I have to give it to the British, they made damn sexy looking airplanes.

Another great addition to my SAC era alternate install.

I'll second that, the grey/green camo schemes are my favorite.

The B(K)Mk.1 model is also the tanker version, except that the detachable probe on the nose is not present in my model. Forgive me, but I don't really want to take this much further for something so niche. I'm really not interested in modelling an extending hose and drogue. I could indeed spend more time on this, but I would prefer to get on more productively with something that's probably needed a lot more.

Do you just need the probe added to the nose?

Additional model files for Valiants with refuelling probes on the nose are in the attached zips. Just allocate the model to whatever aircraft you want in the aircraft.cfg file.
