I’ve been talking to Steve and to Brent about what to model next.
This month I’m 70 years old and I’ve produced 60 AI types to date, not counting the subset variants below them. I keep telling myself to slow down and I vowed never to do anything as complicated as the Tornado again. I had some great help with that project, but it had so many load-out variations and paints the “factory” time outside of the modelling was just too long and tedious, particularly for 3 sim versions. Equally, I only like to fill in with niche projects, like the previous Japanese primary trainers, between something chunkier and with a wider interest. The 61st project is due for "chunky" but it needs to be manageable.
Steve has suggested a new Eurofighter Tornado and while I would enjoy modelling it, I fear it would be just as expansive as the Tornado, if not more so. I could make the little Hughes OH-6D/MH-8 for Japan and The US Army, but that’s more of a niche infill to come perhaps after the next project.
Brent has suggested the specialised and armed variants of the C-130J and C-130J-30: the EC130J Commando Solo, HC-130J (CSAR), KC-130J/Harvest Hawk and the AC-130J Ghostrider gunship. I would need to make the base airlifter models too of course to build from them.
Such a project could be insanely huge of course. However, the modelling could be interesting. If I were to tackle it, I would provide just one squadron or two of each type plus a paint kit for others to paint as they please. That’s for 3 sim versions as usual. It could be made manageable and be a better challenge for modelling than say the OH-6D and less of a repeat than the Typhoon.
So two questions: a) would a C-130J family be of interest and b) is anyone else about to tackle it?
I might not stop myself from modelling the whole lot Pete, but I'll certainly stop myself from painting them all. The Merlin is John B's territory and maybe the Wildcat too.
I second the C-130s, it would be nice to have the special variants in the sim.
That being said, anything you do would be much appreciated. Your work is amazing. After finally beginning to do repaints, I can really appreciate the effort that you put in to your packages.
Some niche/infill ideas; Ch-148 Cyclone/S92, CT-142 Dash 8, and maybe the other special variants.
I also second Stew's statement...do what you enjoy.
Whatever floats your boat will always be the best way forward.
Personally...id love to see an updated B-1B. Nicks was great for the day....but would love a JY version.
Always do what you feel will give you pleasure and not be the source of too much stress...this is afterall….a hobby.

I approve 100. Thai HTAI model is very good, but a quite old. A new one with différent versions (C-130H/J, C-130H/J-30, KC-130, LC-130, EC-130, AC-130U/J...... (FS9, FSX and P3D)
Personally I would like to see SA-341/342 but any new model is always more than welcome. HTAI model is good but it's always nice to see more advanced models especially of aircraft with future.
There are a number of ideas posted that I could pursue in the future. Some of them are a little niche and for the next subject I'd like to do something a bit more meaty and of wider appeal after the Fuji trainers and the Shinmaywa P3Dv4 conversions.
The C-130J specials are containable I think, but mission creep to include all possible C-130 variants is something I want to avoid. I still need a few hours of work to finish the standalone Iwakuni package for P3Dv4 once Brent has woven his magic on one small element and I have a small job for Miljan to complete. What I might do is try my hand at the C-130J nose and cockpit. If I can get that right I'll be happy I think to press ahead with the rest of the modelling.
Please feel free to post further suggestions. Along with Martin's "Most Wanted" list at the Owl's Nest, this is somewhere I can keep coming back to.
I know nobody mentioned it, but I would like a UH-1. It could be out of service in the US army but it is still used in many other countries and even in civilian US services (Police, Fire, Med, etc). Also retro, je, je. I personally had the privilege being an US Army crewchief in them for over 18 years. Lewis
Ps, I guess it would be a modification to the existing UH-1Y.
As always whatever you decide to model will be warmly welcomed. I think a good thing to remember is that it has to be interesting for you since you are doing the hard work.
A C-130 would be great, there are so many variations that it could turn into a massive project. But as it is a massively exported aircraft it gives the options for so many projects for others to embark on.
The Typhoon would be my choice, across two models (single and twin) I don't think there would be a huge number of weapon variations, although the typhoon can carry a vast number of weapons they are very rarely fitted so you could argue that some are not needed perhaps. There are quite a few operators of the beast now which is good in terms of repaints etc. Whilst the NBAI model is great it is old and a new version would give a great facelift almost.
I think Lewis's idea of a UH-1 would be nice, specially if you model other variations that are similar such as the bell 212 and 412, this opens it up not to just military repaints but a lot of civil ones too.
A stikemaster/JP would be very nice to, certainly for those that like the retro stuff and again there are quite a lot in the civil world now too.
You could go into the future with the Americans T-X bird, there will be a lot of them produced in the years to come but I think drawings could be tricky. I haven't seen anything as to what that jet could carry in terms of weapons so maybe only a clean model is required for that? Who knows.
The most important thing is that you find it interesting.
