Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Thanks JY, I think I am finally in the right direction for repaints, however I initially missed the alpha channel. I'm looking over the Cannon MC-130Js since they are a simple change from the already released models.

I've been working on some more African Hercs. I managed to do Niger, Cameroon, and Libya.

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
It's great that people are making good use of the paint kit and adding value to my C-130 models, particularly, in some cases, as it's involved a little investment in learning how to paint. Nice work everyone.

Next up: Chad's single C-130H-30. I'll get all of these African Hercs out soon.

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Here you are Dan, as promised, C-130 W2 "Snoopy" for FS9, FSX and P3Dv4.
Lockheed C-130 W2 “Snoopy” (XV208) was a weather research aircraft operated by the then UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), part of the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), in conjunction with the UK Meteorological Office. The aircraft was based at The Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough, Hampshire and later MOD Boscombe Down in Wiltshire. It was retired from that role in 2001, but a few years later it was acquired by Marshalls of Cambridge as a flying test bed for the Airbus A400m engine. It was finally scrapped and chopped up at Cambridge in 2015.
I've just uploaded a single package that includes both FS9 and FSX/P3Dv4 versions of the aircraft. I have not included scenery or flight plans. As always, please give Greg time to make the package available.

Beautiful, sort of. Nice work as always John. I know I promised some flight plans for it but my pc has decided otherwise, long story short windows has denied all permissions so I can't get into any file whatsoeverJohn Young wrote: ↑26 Apr 2020, 06:20 Here you are Dan, as promised, C-130 W2 "Snoopy" for FS9, FSX and P3Dv4.

@airplanedoktor
The RNZAF winsows look blueish on the previews.
@John
Its a pity that this Snoopy version is not active.
Do you plan to make other special versions of still active C130s?

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Looks excellent, John. A very small critique: the astrodome should be slightly closer to the centreline. It replaces the flight deck escape hatch and gives access to the centreline walkway on the top of the aircraft. It's offset about 18" from the middle.
Just for interest, here's some pictures of the inside of Snoopy in its Met Research role, taken by by good friend Captain Simon Hickey, who was part of the last crew in this role. Also one gratuitous (and uncredited) picture of XV196, a Special Forces Flight C130K showing the astrodome.

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Thanks Tim - it's a trade off. I did have the astrodome slightly higher, but when I do that I can't paint the black elipse on the fuselage side-on view of the texture, to represent the "hole" that the observer's head goes through - it just distorts the shape. I don't have a top down map on that part of the fuselage that would enable me to paint a circle. I don't want to cut out the hole physically because that will create a smoothing problem in the mesh. The astrodome is in the best fit position to draw the elipse, without inviting a heap of extra work.

Fair enough, John. I should have known that you wouldn't have let an inaccuracy creep in accidentally!

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Oh but I do Tim. I had Greyhounds flying around with 6 bladed prop disks for a long while until Steve pointed it out to me when he was testing the FDE.
Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Great new Herc John! I use to do the survival equipment for it when I was in the RAF, based at Lyneham, in the early 90's!!
thanks again!

Outstanding work, John.
I used to fly with a former OC Met Research Flight so seeing your version in my retro RAF FS will always bring him to mind for me.
