Sikorsky S-92 Helicopters

Post by John Young »

I've been trying to keep this one fairly simple with just 4 S-92 types:

- the S-92A HM Coastguard examples (14),

- the new VH-92A Presidential helicopter (4)

- the Canadian CH-148 Cyclone (23 max).

- a generic civilian example for users to paint as they wish.

No, I didn't produce all these since uploading the Haykeye's and Greyhounds, I had a bit of a head start while Steve finished off the FDE's.

Here are some shots of the 3 main models (for FS9, FSX and P3D):

I'm not planning to tinker with scenery and flightplans. The helicopters use the animated lift technique and work best with 800ft runways. I can't really amend other people's AFCADs, particularly those designed outside of MAIW and I really don't want to tackle the HM Coastguard dispersed bases.

Next job is to paint up the rest of the serials for the 3 S-92 types I've modelled and to create the generic example.

John I know you are aware of the operators but here are the other operators
Government of Azerbaijan
Royal Air Wing (Bahrain)
Irish Coast Guard
Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department
Kuwait Air Force
Ministry of Interior (Saudi Arabia)
Republic of Korea Air Force
Republics of Korea Coast Guard
Royal Thai Air Force
Government of Turkey
Government of Turkmenistan
Babcock Mission Critical Services (United Kingdom)

I’m not doing this to be annoying I’m doing this to help

John I want to apologize for everything I’ve done in the past

I’m obviously not a perfect man but I’m a great man

Can you ever forgive me for what I did

I'm sure other people are going to create textures of the other operators with the paint kit.

Absolutely top draw stuff as always John, I've been looking forward to these for a while that's for sure.

Andy, there's no need to list the operators that use them, people will get to them as and when they wish to. In my mind listing the operators of the aircraft doesn't help, it just comes across as a little ungreatful for what John has already done. I'm sure during his research he saw who operates them and from there he has made his choice as to which version to model and to paint.

Andy, I might get irritated at the time, but I bear no grudges, so nothing to forgive. I already have a comprehensive list of operators thanks. Geoffj posted a really helpful link in the "Thoughts on the Next Project" thread on the 13 May. I'll be highlighting that in the Paint Kit.

We have some excellent painters here who will produce the textures of operators of the S-92.

They look very good Mins. Certainly not shabby.

You are progressing really well with Gmax every time you show us a model. If you feel like moving a step further forward with your skills and trying glass windows with an interior, have a play with this:

Cut out the 7 windows on each side of the fuselage. Keep them rectangular and save the bits that come out to use as glass. Slice the fuselage planes to do that and avoid Boolean cuts.

Clone the fuselage with the windows removed and select all the polygons. In the Gmax Command panel drop down menu, select "Normals" and then "Flip Normals". That will put the polygons on the inside.

You now have the basis for an interior that you can paint a dark colour and add seats to. To refine the interior, delete the polygons you don't need and add bulkheads where needed. Put a double sided glass texture on the rectangles you cut out.

The cockpit windows use the same principle, but the cutting is a bit more tricky.

Don't worry if you want to stick with painted glass, but you might find that the alternative is not that difficult.

This is the generic model I've made for painters who want a civilian S-92 model. It's devoid of all the military external features, has the animated doors with steps, 7 windows each side, civilian pilots and 19 passenger seats:

Painters can of course use the HM Coastguard model with sliding door, winches, FLIR etc for other rescue examples. I've tested the basis of the paint kit and there should be no problems either way.

I just have to duplicate up the textures and aircraft.cfg entries for each serial number (38 paints I think) and I'll package up and get these out.

The Sikorsky S-92 packages and the paint kit have been sent this morning for inclusion in the Download hangar.

There are separate aircraft only packages for FS9 and FSX/P3D comprising 3 operational models with 38 paints, plus a generic model for painters.

As always, please give Greg the time to make them available.
