JYAI Boeing KC-46A’s

Post by John Young »

I thought I’d reveal this project now, so that users who are just setting up the recently released USAF KC-10A packages will know what else is coming in the Tanker neck of the woods.

I produced the KC-46A back in 2016, but featuring only the 3 test aircraft at Boeing. Since then, some 47 aircraft are now in service at 4 USAF bases – Altus, McConnell, Pease and Seymour Johnson, with 13 (we think) at Boeing. I know some people have produced paints for some of the aircraft, but we wanted to produce a completely up to date package for the whole fleet of 60 as listed by Scramble and other sources.

I have taken the opportunity to update the models and paint all 60 aircraft, this time using the AMC “Proud Grey” (FS36173) base, which is a bit lighter than the grey I used in 2016. Some of the aircraft are now sporting fin flashes. Steve (swp53) is kindly producing the flight plans.

Like the DC-10A packages that update the C-17 traffic that use the same bases, the KC-46A packages will also update the KC-135R traffic files at the 4 bases mentioned above. Only two now have the aircraft. Ray Parker is kindly updating the textures for those.

I’m just in the process of working through the 4 MAIW sceneries to make them compatible across the sim versions – FS9, FSX, P3Dv4 and P3Dv5. That involves only a small amount of conversion but a large amount of anti-pushback nodes!

This is McConnell in FSX:

I’ll post further as we work to finish the project.

John, not forgetting, Steve and Ray.

John I was just at Boeing Field last week, there were at least that many there that I could see.

Yes that's quite believable Mike. The current Google Earth image of KPAE shows 7 which is the number we have programmed, plus 4 at each of the other two Boeing locations, KBFI and 0&MT in Montana.

The KC-46A packages (for FS9 and FSX/P3D) are finished and have been sent for inclusion in the Download Hangar. There are 62 KC-46A's in total, based at 7 airfields:

Boeing Everett Seattle (KPAE):

Boeing Field Seattle (KBFI):

I had never heard of Glasgow AFB until this package. The learning curve is pointing upwards today.

It was a dispersed B-52 base, Steve, taking aircraft from Fairchild AFB. It closed in 1976 according to Wikki. The crew bunker is still shown on Google Earth, so I added it near the QRA pans when I drew the AFCAD.

Thank you John for this update.

I want to ask if in real life the C-17 are still based in Altus.

If yes, how many?

I only know that there is an important training facility for the C-17 pilots.

Thanks.

asdro, you won't have seen it yet, but the KC-46A manual explains how to install the current C-17's at Altus. You will need the KC-10A package for your sim version.
