RAF Valley 2013/14

Post by lowlevelRAF »

Hi Guys,

Myself and my colleague have been making new RAF Valley scenery for FSX :) We have only been working on the scenery for the past 3 months or so and we are making good progress. Currently we are focus on the airfield part of the base, however we may expand to cover the Mess and Officers area. The scenery does will work with both Orbx FTX Wales and normal VFR Photo-scenery.

I have posted a few WIP shots below but there is alot more our facebook page :)

RAF Valley wouldn't be complete without the VAS building!

That looks really nice, Matt. Another highly detailed UK military airfield will be very welcome, and there will be plenty of AI planes operating from there when it is finished :)

Alot of progress on Valley recently, these latest shots are already outdated with more buildings being added today and yesterday! Taking our time as we are modelling every piece of the scenery, not using any models from FSX itself or freeware libraries 8)

That looks excellent Matt. Could I just ask please, because it's relevant to something I'm playing with at the moment, how you will publish your airfield image below the runways and taxiways? Will that be as a photo-real image or will you use xml polygon grass in some way?

Hi John,

Glad you like it :) I'm in talks with the maps provider at the moment, but until then not releasing until our position is clear.

Matt

This looks superb and I say that as one who had a tour at Valley but can I suggest just one thing to give the scenery a truely authentic feel................ditch the trees. The number of trees on the west side of Anglesey can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Judging by one of the pics Rhosneiger looks as if its in the New Forest! I'm sure you must have looked at numerous photos is working on this project. Take another look for trees. If your going by Google Earth, don't be fooled. The 'trees', in the main, are low hawthorns stunted by the incessant wind.

Good luck and keep up the splendid work.

Hi Blackcat,

We have not put any trees in for that very reason  The tree's are part of Orbx, the only bit we have done are on the Photo Tile itself. I have been up to Valley a number of times, love it! Nothing like when they are using RWY 13 or 01 and chill on the beach as they go :)

Very nice work, Matt. It will be great to have a detailed version of RAF Valley for FSX, so take your time and stuff as much detail in as possible!

Matt, if it's of any help, the last aerial airfield image that was bought at ACG cost around £30 for a freeware licence.

HI Guys,

Valley is still making progress, at the moment we are focus on our respect jobs, so Valley progress has been slower than in the past, however most of the main buildings are done. Myself I'm working on getting some of ground equipment sorted. However, it is FSX only. Personally, I don't use FS9 anymore and have never done any development work in it, in the future maybe, but its not on the list at the moment.

We havn't yet had any info back from the photo tile provider, so we are a bit stuck in terms of that.

Regards,

Matt :)

Thanks for the update, Matt. I am really looking forward to having a good quality RAF Valley. Can you just make sure that it blends with the PlayHorizon VFR Photographic Scenery (Volume 3)? If you do not have a copy of this, I would be willing to help out with the testing of that when (hopefully) you get the photo base image. I am currently a beta tester for UK2000 and SIM720, so I have some experience of this

Not a problem Chris, I have got the Horizon VFR as well, but I mainly use Orbx for the UK, but the other modeler on MSPG still uses Horizon VFR as well :) So rest assured it'll work 8)

Any updates, Matt? By the way, I have been using P3D exclusively since last August, so hopefully your scenery package will work in that!
