Help with surface layer.

Post by col1948 »

I have some scenery for EGSS Stansted, everything is fine except for the parking areas, they are all showing white.
I opened up the afcad with ADE and moused over the area, it said:

Surface: Asphalt
Drawing Layer: 115

I see there is an option to 'Reset Drawing Layers' but then I get a popup saying some things will change, any advice please.

Sounds like you are missing a texture, or two. You get that with UK2000 scenery if you don't have the correct texture.

Hi Steve, I found a texture file for Asphalt and added it but it made no difference, just a try.

If it is like UK2000 then adding an asphalt texture will not help. A bgl will need a specific filename for it to show up.

So what is the scenery you are using? You will either have to install it again or try to work out what is missing using a tool like procmon.

Is that my old FS2002/2004 scenery of Stansted, built about 13 years ago? If it is, the asphalt texture is called ASPHALTJ.bmp and ASPHALTJ_lm.bmp. If you have the texture folder installed, they should be in there.

The scenery pre-dates FSX and is incompatible with it.

Hi John, Not sure if you remember I did a post/thread on here a while ago about 'British Airports' scenery I bought, I got 5 disks for the UK.
Any way they messed up my FS and I had to uninstall everything and do a fresh install, what a pain, but some of the scenery was very good.
So what I did was install it again but to a separate folder outside the sim and I robbed bits of it to put back in FS. I got EGNR Hawarden and that is great so I tried EGSS Stanstead, agsin this is good but for the apron parking area, the buildings and taxiways are all good, so if this is something you did I'm not sure but those texturesare not in the foldler.

I think that to work out what is missing you will need to set up procmon and then load the scenery and see what is missing. It can be difficult to work out at first but once you do it can be quite easy to find the missing textures.

Not, that's not my Stansted scenery, it's the precursor to the UK2000 scenery by Gary Summons.

I deleted the scenery after learning John Young also made EGSS so I found his version and now have it installed, absolutely brilliant, I'm well pleased.
Thank you John you are a genius mate.
