Sbuilder creating too much water

Post by clickclickdoh »

Working on my latest project which requires a lot of coast line rebuilding, I have run into a unique problem with Sbuilder:

This is what the project file looks like:

Here is what it looks like in FS9:

As you can see, it's creating a random square of water where it' not being called for. The new mystery water square should be filled by the default landclass as the original coast line was much farther out. Attempts to fill the new water with landclass tiles produce no results. I can put a VTP poly over it, but there is not autogen.

That is weird. You don't have any other files affecting that area do you?? IOW anything that might be left over from another SBuilder project hiding in some other folder??

Have you tried using LWM viewer? That should identify where you extra square of water is coming from. If it's from your same file that is already making the coastline re-design, at least you will know which file is the problem child.

I had a similar situation trying to create the new island at RJBB.

I eventually deleted the project and started again.

To be honest I do not know how I fixed it.

What I do know, is that I did not mess with the default water tiles on the second attempt.

I created a "land mask" LWM polygon under the land class tile drop. No water class allocation.
I think it may have to do with having either water or land LWM polygons and not both.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the tip on that program:

Looks like it is coming from inside the LWM2.bgl being created by Sbuilder... but how it's getting there and how to get rid of it are still mysteries to me.

I have given this more thought.

I have looked at my other projects again.

I remember now that I used the "fill" feature on the first attempt at RJBB.

What I would suggest is to create only polygons to fill the new water areas. Build only the waterways.

I am not sure if you can remove the fill blocks.

Thanks for the idea John, unfortunately I am already using all drawn polys and no fills. I tried compiling the project without fills selected and it's still there, which isn't unexpected since it's not showing in the project.

I did manage with some cursing and wrangling to get it to display an overlayed VTP texture poly with autogen, but oddly enough, that poly won't display night textures now.

The fact that it makes a rectangle precisely in the grid would indicate that it is a fill.

On the task bar at the top there is a function "select". Click it and it should open a dropdown menu.

click on "All area fills". That should highlight them.

Click delete on the keyboard.

Compile the project and see if it is still there.

Sbuilder does some weird stuff sometimes. Hours and hours of frustration fortunately and usually result in the desired scenery. But not always! :wallbash:

Sadly, still there. I suspected it wasn't a fill even though it looks like one or it should have vanished when I compiled without Fills selected.

But... I did manage through trial and error to figure it out.

Tah Dah, it's gone. I deleted two points in the water poly where the red circle is. Now the mystery square is gone. It doesn't make any sense, but that was it.

Glad you got it sorted.

I do not use fills at all now.
