Help with AFCAD

Post by KevinJarvis »

I'm tweaking a favorite air base of mine. I am trying to separate A10, T38, F16 and KC135's.

I have coded each parking spot to match the code in the cfg file.

But it doesn't seem to work.

I have a mixture of the 3 smaller aircraft and sometimes they even park in the -135's spots.

I have even gone so far as to differentiate the spots to size and have even added more for any extra aircraft that I might have arriving.

Not sure what my problem is with this situation.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I would suggest you have not enough uncoded spots for overflow.
Which way is up?

Thanks Graham,
I'm in the process of adding even more parking spots.
I didn't realize that I had so much traffic at this airbase.

LOL, just as well you don't control the ATC then, hehe.

Well, if I was ATC, I'd have radar to help me...lol.

Added more parking spots and still have a mess...lol.

How about a screen shot of the AFCAD?

Hi Kevin,

One way to keep the F-16s seperate is to lower the parking radius.

F-16 cfg gives radius of 8m whilst the A-10 and T-38 use 9m. If you lower the radius of the F-16 spots to say 8.5m then the other two cannot park there.

Cheers

I actually had thought of that. But as you see, I reduced the radius on the T38 thinking it surely would be smaller than the -16.

I'll give that a go and see what I get.

Thanks,

Like Stew said, when I edit an AFCAD I try and make the parking sizes either equal to or one meter greater than the aircraft I desire to park in those spots. Your C-130 slots look to be the same size as the KC-135 slots which isn't necessary. That means any overflow KC-135 aircraft will park in those C-130 slots(after at least filling the large transient aircraft slot). I make all C-130 slots either 22 or 23m. This would be more applicable to CARGO/large aircraft as the fighters are all pretty close in size so sometimes leaving that extra meter will result in different fighters parking there if there is a lack of overflow parking.

Since that's KGUS, I'm not sure what codes you are using for anything besides KC-135(434th ARW) as those are the only assigned aircraft stationed there(maybe retro?). Everything else would be a transient assuming modern day logistics.

Could you either repost a photo with the codes listed instead of the parking numbers or just tell the codes?

While growing up in Indiana, I saw all kinds of aircraft from KGUS. But yes, the only aircraft there today is the -135. So this is more of a updated/retro look for my personal use.

I thought there was a list of aircraft radius floating out here somewhere but I've yet to find it. If anyone has it would they mind shipping it my way please.

I'm still working on reducing the parking size to fit specific aircraft and I'm also adding more spots.

It seems the more I add, the more traffic I find...LOL. (See earlier post)

But what I'm experiencing also is after I've reduced the F16 spots, they tend to park in the bigger A10/T38 spots and leave the -16 spots open. Even though I've coded them as F16.

Here is a part of the coding that I'm using. Some spots are still a work in progress.

I don't have the list but AFCAD will tell you what size each aircraft requires to park.

All in meters(and assume you are using MAIW aircraft and the like):

A-10=9
B-1=24
B-2=28
C-130(to include J-30)=21
C-135(most variants)=34
KC-135R=44
C-17=28
E-3=27
F-16=8
F-15A/B/C/D/E=Depending on the MAIW package 9 or 12
T-37=6
T-38=9

That should cover most aircraft.

You're using generic aircraft codes in the AFCAD(F16, A10, T38, C130, etc...) instead of squadron/wing codes(911R, 555F, HM15, 180A, etc...) which could be an issue. MAIW are squadron coded and since there are no assigned F-16(as an example) at KGUS, an F-16 coming from say Vermont will land and look for a parking code 134F... since there is no 134F it will then look for uncoded parking slots, and if they're aren't any of those, it will look for a MIL_COMBAT slot and park there even if it coded differently.

To me, your radii look within the limits(I use meters, not feet) so it would seem like the generic coding is what is causing the issue. What does the aircraft.cfg file for the aircraft have as the parking code?

Hi Kevin,

The best way of confirming A/c radii, is to open up Afcad/Tools/Aircraft Editor.

Give it a minute or so and a list will appear of all your installed aircraft showing the parking codes and radii (which you can edit)

Cheers

Thanks for the help guys.
I just found the editor in AFCAD so I'll be using that to narrow things down.
After that, I'll just have to look up each code and assign spots to those.
