You need to check the option "Auto Backup" for the creation of the owl backup files.
And yes, if you do a new installation on a system where AIAE was not installed before, you need to adjust the settings to your liking. What you see on first start is the application default.

Mike Cronin made this model with the intention to use it both ways. We consider converting only models that do not affect your sim negatively when used as AI. But be aware that there is a real CH-53 AI made by Menno. You find it in the download hanger as well.
