Re: What about updates when designing for MSFS?

Thank you very much Ian. That sounds promising. So as I understand correctly, all the legacy sceneries converted to work fine in MSFS do not need any updates or maintenance repairs when MSFS is doing some of its odd updates? I cannot speak for future updates but so far I have helped convert between...

Re: What about updates when designing for MSFS?

Hi, a happy new year all - hope you got a good start... Folks, as probably well known, I hesitate to change to MSFS because of several reasons - most of them is my missing beloved aircraft and missing military AI. But as well as that, I am fearing the development of sceneries for MSFS because of th...

Having the F-16 in both DCS and MSFS. I'm not sure. Could even be P3D to be honest.

Re: MSFS installers insights.

Not surprised, John. It does seem to be the case that the FS games really push the envelope and if you have minced around with hardware settings that it can cause problems. I think it is one of those things that people don't think that it could be the case until you experience it yourself. As I sai...

Re: MSFS installers insights.

Thanks for the info, Ian. Yes bitcoin miners have a lot to answer for, in regards to the short supply of graphics cards. I was trying to work out whether 32 GB of RAM was worth the money. I shall take what you said on board. Upgrading from 16 to 32 is relatively a cheap upgrade. I got CTD in the si...

Re: MSFS installers insights.

Yeah, a second hand 1080TI is what I am looking out for. I think that its the minimum. Getting hold of cards is joke at the moment. I got mine back in Feb 18 when I had this PC built. I also found when I went from 16 GB to 32 GB ram last year this made a big difference for P3D , DCS and FS2020.

Re: MSFS installers insights.

Need a 10X series card really in my opinion for good performance. I run a 1080 TI with stock clock. At Lakenheath on the runway in a pay ware Goshawk I get 40-45 FPS and then when in the air between 40-50 FPS. Thats with a mixture of ultra and high settings and the odd settings lower which give mini...

RAF Honington FS2020

For those that use FS2020 I released my Honington scenery for the new sim today. It features Johns AI Tornado converted to static models, much like the updated the Coningsby and Lakenheath scenery with the Typhoons and Eagles. It can be downloaded here: https://flightsim.to/file/12544/egxh-raf-honin...

Re: RAF Lakenheath for MSFS2020

Thank you very much for reply. Ian, you say "type". As around Brüggen, I may remember there are also pines around Lakenheath. Does MSFS really generate the european pine type like in reality? I don't think so. But the screens look stunning! I have just had a look at the types and everythi...

Re: RAF Lakenheath for MSFS2020

Wow !!! Another reason for me to change to MSFS as soon as all my favorite aircraft will appear in this sim as well. Ian, do you use custom trees on the airbase or the MSFS default one? They look a little like default... Thanks Yes default as they blend in perfectly with the surrounding terrain and...

Re: RAF Coningsby for MSFS2020

Thanks a lot, Ian. So I am truly interested in how to get my RAF Brüggen scenery into MSFS - this will be a real improvement and I am looking very forward to it. Only headache is the amount of Mirosoft Upgrades within a short time and my doubt in a reliable working MSFS.... We'll see... I guess it ...

Re: RAF Coningsby for MSFS2020

@ Ian: Did you change anything complex regarding your models and textures to make them look so extremly real? Or does the MSFS engine render this colours and shadows automatically? This appearance is unbelievable. All textures and models are the same as the P3D version however I added PBR materials...

Re: RAF Coningsby for MSFS2020

As Pete said, I think one of the master problems will be the terrain. Guys, as soon as you are able to bring back (military) live into MSFS, I will buy this sim and only because of this! Ian, how did you manage the curved runways, please? This is outstanding work, the shots are stunning! You can cr...

Re: Goodbye to LODs?

Welding common vertices were certainly effective in FS9 Ian, the tests we did at ACG and the results we got afterwards confirmed that. Microsoft said they batch welded vertices in FSX at the time, so it was not so important in that sim version and presumably after. John Microsoft implemented draw c...

Re: RAF Coningsby for MSFS2020

Your scenery looks great in MSFS, Ian. However, does anyone else get irritated by the tendency of HDR graphics to wash-out colours and give a filtered look to everything? It's something I first noticed with P3Dv4, but at least in P3D it can be turned off (and, IMO, is much better for it), but MSFS ...

Re: RAF Coningsby for MSFS2020

That's a major breakthrough Ian - well done. I know you told me off-line, that Pete managed the conversion of my FSX F-15's to enable them to work in FS2020 and hat's off to him for doing it. I know you said that there are still some glitches, but Is it too early to write up a step by step guide to...

Re: Goodbye to LODs?

LODS are only necessary nowadays for really high poly model such as aircraft. For a lot of my scenery models it just isn't worth for the extra draw call's. In fact Coningsby for P3D and MSFS2020 have no LODS and no issues with performance. Draw calls are the biggest hit on FPS for me and then textur...
