I'll be darned...as a 22+ year veteran that is the very first time I have seen a C-130 with floats. Thanks Joseph29!! Guess an Old Dog can learn new tricks...

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Somebody is thinking "outside the box" for sure. I don't think the region for intended use at the moment is to hard of a guess either. The C-130 platform has been tested/utilized in a number of unconventional ways for years and this is definitely a new one... Would seriously add some new i...

Re: Windows 11 (very early)
Steve, Appreciate your thoughts. Will be interesting to see how all of this progresses. As I said, I know of a number of small businesses that are still operating on Windows XP and 7 by way of an Intranet structure and only utilizing select machines on the Internet completely isolated from their Int...

Re: Windows 11 (very early)
Thanks for the update Steve. I was wondering about this as well. I have a Gen 7 Intel Chip in my Toshiba Satellite laptop, but the device manager shows TPM present as well. I think that before all is said and done MS is going to either end up rethinking these chip dependent features or - most likely...

Re: Aircraft Recognition
Nice...Been 20 years since I looked at this FM. I still have a hard copy from my time in service in the 80s/90s and comparing the two, the changes are significant. While comparing the two, I also came across several decks of Aircraft/Armor recognition flash cards that TASC distributed to us grunts b...

Re: Windows 11 (very early)
Love the Amiga systems...I had a Commodore 128 in 1985. I forget the name of the magazine, but I subscribed to one that always had machine/assembly language scripts for different games you could program into the C128. I killed a lot of hours punching numbers into that thing to create sprites and sou...

Re: Windows 11 (very early)
So basically the new UI is giving windows users many features and functions that have been available in linux for the last 20 years... I want to go back to the days where my T/RS Model 4D with 12MB Suitcase HDD was considered top of the line...never seen a better platform for Space Invaders since......

Re: Looking for Virtavia/Alphasim C-17 repaints
You might try searching flightsim.com or avsim.com. I know avsim had some back in the day, but after their server was hacked and deleted some years ago, I am not sure if they are still there. Many files were never re-uploaded due to the original authors having already moved on to other endeavours. Mat

Re: Thoughts on the next project
John, I think the KC-10 would be a great project to see done as well. I know it would be retro but the S-3B Viking and OV-1C/D Mohawk would be cool fixed wings (This is probably biased by my service time 1983 - 2002). When you do come back to the helos a neat package deal to consider would be the US...

Re: Main Texture Directory Usage
Thumbs Up on that Steve... All I did, for instance, where I have multiple sceneries by a single author (John Stinstrom, Blueprint Simulations, etc.) is identify the common textures utilized in each scenery and then moved a single copy to the main texture directory. It has served me well so far and I...

Re: Main Texture Directory Usage
Thanks Steve! Pretty much what I thought the practice was in all ways that you stated. The lightmaps for AI aircraft (*_L) make the most sense and sounds like the way to go and weapons, etc.. for at least US aircraft (which dominate my setup). I will play with this some by viewing some of the textur...

Main Texture Directory Usage
Looking for an in-depth education on the practice of placing common AI Aircraft textures in the FS2004 Main Texture directory. I notice that a number of MAIW packages utilize this practice (i.e., NBAI weapons, reflective canopy, *_L). This seems like a good practice and would save considerable disk ...
