I ran into the same issue installing FSX SDK with the disk "clattering round" from disk #1 of FSX Deluxe. Eventually installed, however there is about 45 minutes of my life that I will never get back. The installation of the service packs went much smoother.

One other detail when checking the flight plans and aircraft with AIFP. Look on the left hand side and make sure the Target Version is set to FSX.

What I should have said is I've done the conversion from FSX to FS9, and haven't done the conversion from FS9 to FSX. I'll also take a look at dxtbmp.exe. Sorry for the confusion.
