F-35 Fin Flashes
F-35 Fin Flashes
Are the F-35 units allowed the normal unit fin flashes, or do they have to remain “stealthy” with the gray RA paint? I’m wanting to try my hand at repainting the 187th and the 301st as they are transitioning.
Many thanks.

Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
Depends on the nation. What makes me say that is that the Danes have just received their first 4 and they have toned down markings, i.e pale red and off white, rather than the grey shades of other nations.
It has to be the make-up of the paint rather than the colour that is the most important thing.
This article has details https://theaviationist.com/2023/09/14/f ... n-denmark/ which should make painters happy.

Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
Reggie, not sure how much the LO is comprised on the tails as living next to Luke AFB I have yet to see any additional flashy paint work unlike the "CAG/CO" USMC F-35Bs. Does make me wonder if the 187th will paint at least 1 with red tails.

My first attempt, still trying to get the longhorn skull on there. (see attached).
Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
Not sure what you are asking. It may just be my P3Dv5.4 settings that make them appear that way.
Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
I did wonder that myself. Do you not see them as green in game?

No Sir. This screenshot was taken from the sim.

UPDATE:
Starting the 187th using Scramble. A couple of questions. Is there a template somewhere in regards to fin flash design, placement, etc.; and do I need permission from someone to repaint these aircraft? Lastly, is this even close to correct?
Appreciate any assistance,
Reggie

Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
It looks OK Reggie, but if you wanted to be sure there are some shots of the 187th fin on Google. Download one that's square-on, select around the fin and copy it as a layer to your paint. Then place it above your fin layer and lower the transparency of the layer you have just pasted. You can now align your fin design with the photo. Remove the photo layer after that of course.
You appear to be missing the alpha channel on the canopy.
You don't need permission to paint my model.

Thanks for the Alabama F-35's. Going to install them later (going to use Alabama F-16 plans).

Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
For some reason the USN/USMC F-35s place them towards the nose. I did just notice the download has them in on the nose as well, should be under the tail stabs on USAF jets. Nice job on these as I constantly try to find where the F-16s for both AL and WI went to.
While researching, noticed AL ANG has a few variations on the tail inset.

Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
Sorry everyone, just noticed the roundels too. Will correct on the next update. Glad you guys caught that, I'm using one template for all and I'm working up the 301st FW and the 325th FW as we speak. Could have been a disaster.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
Doing some final tweaking, should be uploading soon with seven aircraft.

Looking great Reggie, how many repaints are you planning to do? A few more squadrons have now transitioned to the F-35 on both the AF and USMC sides.

Re: F-35 Fin Flashes
I'm uploading the current eleven aircraft assigned to the reactivated 95th FS at Tyndall today. Also starting the 457th at Carswell, but don't have a tail flash photo yet. I think the 457th has received two aircraft so far.
